What are the shortcut buttons for preset messages in BF2?

In BF 1942/DC you used the F-keys, but apparently not in BF2. Only thing I can say is yes and no using pg-up/pg-dn keys. I've tried all kinds of key combos, but can't anything to work.

It doesn't mention it in the instruction book, and when I ask during a game, I never get answered.

Please go easy on me here. I already realize I'm dumb.

Press Q and a list comes up, if that's what you're referring to. I still can't figure out how to say "requesting orders" or other ones that aren't on that Q menu.
