What are the rules for custom avatars?

I can't find the rules section on this. I remember reading on one of the threads a moderator telling that one would be perma-banned with no avatars if we broke the rules. Can I link to a gif image? (I'll keep the size 80x80)

From memory, I think the rules were,

• no profanity
• no nudity or the like
• nothing that would violate US image laws

Do I have this right or am I missing something?

Most importantly, thanks for FINALLY allowing custom avatars !! 🙂
