Don't remind me. When I was a teen in the mid-90s, I used the built-in Win95 backup utility to get things off my first computer onto something ~50 floppy diskettes........ I've actually forgotten most of the stuff I lost because it hurt to think about it.

kind of a sad story :(

Sadly I lost my whole "my documents" a few years ago, that was the longest continuous folder I had. Now I think it is some mp3s from 2001

While technically not "on" my computer I still have three hard drives (120GB, 200GB, and 250GB) with archived shit and backups going back to circa 1997 or 1998. And every couple months, I plug them into USB enclosure looking for stuff. There's a lot of duplication and I could safely delete 80% of the stuff but that's a lot of work.

I had stuff early 90's, but when I updated to Windows 8, it also wiped my backup drive.

I had M$ logged in for a week trying to restore it, but they only recovered a few files. The most important thing were emails I had which now are all lost.

Hard lesson to learn, but when you reload an OS, disconnect all your internal and external drives except the OS drive.

mid-late 80s I guess. Transferred from an XT to a 386, and then copied off the 386's hard drive. Those are executables and things though. (Though there's a game with a high score board that includes dates; the most recent entry has my dad's name and a date of 1989.)

As far as files created by myself, probably some QBASIC programs from 1992ish.

Got some photos and music dating back to 2003 on my current desktop. Though I have stuff that's much older on floppies and burned CDs.

If you transfer and old file or any file to a website by a Ftp program the file date can get changed to the date you sent it. And if you transfer the file back to your pc and overwrite the original file by mistake or on purpose it will then have the more recent date. My questions is aren't there programs like algorithms that can determine the original date of your older files (or any file) on a writable drive when the date gets changed as just described?
