What are the oldest files on your computer?

I got some project files from my college years, from around 1999. Mostly source code files and their executables. A bunch of mp3's from the same era are mixed in my music collection as well.

1992. I have a copy of the drive from my old 486DX, and yes, I've recently used some files from that era.

Some old pictures from 2000. That was when I had the Win Me box. I still have the 32GB hdd as well, currently in my parents old pc as extra storage.

On my actual computer I don't really store files (it's all on my file server) but on that server I'd say the oldest files are probably year 2000 or so. I still have stuff from high school in an archive folder within another archive folder within another archive folder. :awe: Grade 11 is the only thing I can tell for sure so I'll say year 2000/2001 but there is most likely stuff in there that's older it's just I never specified the grade in the name of the folder. Damn some of these pics bring back memories, one time there was this activity that I was photographer for and I still have all the pics. Those pics were taken with a floppy disk camera, imagine that. :awe: That was the cat's ass at the time too. "You don't even have to go get them developed and can delete the ones you don't like!" Now a single picture from my DSLR would take over 10 floppies. :awe:

Come to think of it, grade 11 is also when 9/11 attacks happened. I still remember that day like it was recent. Crazy to think it's over 10 years now.

I think the external hard drive attached to my computer has some pictures from 1995 or 96.

I had stuff early 90's, but when I updated to Windows 8, it also wiped my backup drive.

I had M$ logged in for a week trying to restore it, but they only recovered a few files. The most important thing were emails I had which now are all lost.

Oldest I could find were from ~2001. I have emails going back to 1998, but since free email quotas back then were low, most of it I deleted voluntarily. (Including from deceased relatives, which gives me a sad.)

That's actually pretty f'd up.

No shit. I am highly technical and this was a USB connected backup drive.

Windows 8 somehow obliterated all the drives in my PC (there was a SATA drive it wiped, but that was just another backup).

They told me it should never have happened and sent me out an original disc to use in the future.

I had all my receipts, some great back and forth discussions with some technical leaders today from back in the day, and of course, friends and family stuff that cannot be replaced.

I have probably lost things I didn't even know I still had.

Fortunately, due to the burglary I had a few years ago almost all those receipts are not needed anymore since I was totally wiped out.

I keep regular backups on a thumb drive. And one of these days I think I'm gonna move the bulk of my data to a NAS.

Its scary how little regard microsoft has for people. They just assume you use your computer as a workstation and none of your data matters to you.

They also assume you only have Windows, and furthermore, only want the newest version of Windows. Their installer, and general install philosophy is biggest piece of shit I've ever encountered.

Don't remind me. When I was a teen in the mid-90s, I used the built-in Win95 backup utility to get things off my first computer onto something ~50 floppy diskettes. I had to sell my computer and planned to save money to get another one. My "friends" didn't have computers and didn't understand why I was being protective of the disks. I had nowhere to off-load the data from those disks. My "friends" thought my desperation was hilarious as they started destroying the disks and throwing them onto roofs and in the woods. I lost it all 🙁

With very limited access to the Internet back then, I had spent a lot of time on the computer creating things. I had gotten pretty good at pixel art and made some funny posters in bitmap format. I've actually forgotten most of the stuff I lost because it hurt to think about it.

"Windows Update needs to restart your computer to finish installing updates."
Then the 15 minute countdown timer started.
"See if we give two shits that you left something important running on your unattended computer."

Files copied from 5.25" low-density archives. Probably around grade school (~ 1988).
That reminds me, I've got to get a working Iomega Jaz drive someday to grab some old files off of a couple of Jaz disks.

got an old ~400mb drive with win 3.11 w/ tabworks in my frankenstein box. earliest stuff on my current stuff is my doom 1 saves and custom wads on an external.

NES ROMS from 1986. But I seriously doubt they were ripped in 1986.

This too. I have Goldeneye and Perfect Dark N64 ROMS and music that goes back to around 2000. But the ROMS were probably made in '06. I still have Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour on here along with Red Alert and SimCity 4 Deluxe.

A lot of my old crap is on Quantum Fireball hard drives. I have no idea what is there any more. LOL

Come to think of it I may have a copy of At Ease for Mac somewhere. In school I learned everything I could about it and logged in to my science teacher's account. LOL!

Photos I scanned of my house. Mostly my stereo. Thiel 2.3 speakers and my classe amp. Neat to see my old Revenge of the Jedi Poster on the wall in a frame.

I got my first computer in 1999. Had some files saved that were from 99 but windows 98se went bad and lost them. Might possibly be some older some place in some corner.
