Those are political animals, a distinctly dishonorable breed. No, any revolt by the military will result in them being shot by other servicemen. There will be no aid and comfort and no prisoners if there is resistance.
You don't see a "conflicting loyalty" kind of scenario? I was thinking of the scene in the movie Crimson Tide, where both the Captain (played by Gene Hackman) and the XO (played by Denzel Washington) were both giving conflicting yet legal orders to the crew.

Situations like that really are a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of scene.

Agreed. Trump will moan and whine to the very end, but he doesn't have the military support. If anything, soldiers could be the ones escorting Trump out of the White House if he refuses to leave.
Nope, the Secret Service has that honor.

As of 1/20/2021 at high noon, Trump just becomes a old man that got lost from his tour group and will be escorted from the grounds by the Secret Service. He will have no more rights or privledges in that building than you or I would if we wander off from a tour group. Their oath is to the office, not the individual.

Worst case, if the election has not been decided by that time, the succession of powers kicks in and Nancy Pelosi becomes president until the election is finalized.

Trump and his 'patriot' supporters dream of this, and foolishly threaten it, but thankfully the proud men and women who serve our Great Nation swear their oaths to the Constitution, and not to Trump.

Not too sure about that. As a former president, he gets lifetime Secret Service protection.

Arkansas Police Chief Resigns After Calling For ‘Death To All Marxist Democrats’

The vicious messages on social media site Parler stunned the town’s mayor, who condemned Lang Holland’s posts.
The police chief of a small Arkansas town has resigned after writing social media posts calling for “death to all Marxist Democrats” and saying he hoped certain Democratic leaders, including former President Barack Obama, would be “drawn and quartered.”
Marshall Police Chief Lang Holland resigned Saturday afternoon after it was revealed that he had posted offensive comments on right-wing social media site Parler, Mayor Kevin Elliott announced.
“Death to all Marxist Democrats. Take no prisoners, leave no survivors!!” Holland said in one post, ABC affiliate KATV-Channel 7 reported.

In another, Holland reportedly posted images of Obama and Hillary Clinton in prison uniforms with the caption: “I pray all those in that picture hang on the gallows and are drawn and quartered!!!! Anything less is not acceptable.”

He also posted QAnon conspiracy theories and repeated President Donald Trump’s baseless claim that the presidential election had been stolen.
Holland’s posts and accounts have been taken down.

Elliott said he learned of the posts, which were also shared on Twitter and Reddit, when he received calls from concerned citizens in the community of 1,300.
Elliott told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that he consulted with city attorneys and met with Holland, who apologized for his “profanity-laden” posts and resigned, effective immediately.

For a time, a new Parler account that appeared to belong to Holland popped up, and messages on it insisted that he was not responsible for the other account’s offensive posts. The person behind the new account claimed to be the “real Chief” and “protector of all people.”
But Holland eventually acknowledged that he was responsible for the threatening messages, Elliott said.
“The City of Marshall strongly condemns the actions of Mr. Holland in his posts to social media,” Elliott said a statement. “The Marshall community does not in any way support or condone bullying or threats of violence to anyone of any political persuasion! We condemn it! We are a welcoming community that is humbly working to build a bright future of ALL our citizens.”

Elliott said he was surprised by the posts from Holland, whom he had considered a “hero” because of his multiple military tours overseas, according to CNN. The mayor told the Democrat-Gazette that Holland, who had been the police chief for two years, had been the town’s best police chief in 26 years.
Earlier this year, Holland refused to enforce a mask mandate to help stem the spread of COVID-19 that had been issued by Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson, calling it unconstitutional.

A particular female friend of mine, called me scared out of her panties. She said that she heard Secretary of Defense Mike Esper say on the news that he was resigning, because he believed that Trump might mobilize the military to stay in power.

And he wanted no part of that.

I told her, there has never been a dictator in the history of the world that was able to stage a coup without the support of the military.

And Trump doesn't have it. But it is thought-provoking.

Does he really need the military to stage a coup, considering that his cult is so large?
Too preposterous to happen. I dont believe Esper would say anything that dumb.

Have you been asleep for the last four years?

For Trump, "preposterous" is just another Tuesday.
Its too preposterous because it cant be done. The whole of the armed services would mutiny. Trump might not think its too preposterous, but that would make him even more idiotic than anyone could possible presume.

Great... But if your Commander in Chief declares that socialists are trying to undermine democracy by stealing the election, and you believe him , then that makes it your Constitutional duty to help him.

This thread affirms to me the saying something I was told by Mulla Nasrudin, that you don’t have to be afraid yourself to suffer from it.

My new house guest, a feral kitty, doesn’t show the slightest signs of revolution worries, however as she is piecfully asleep in my closet. We had a bit of rain and the temperature has dropped. Days are shorter, and I heard on the news ding dong, the filthy swine is dead. All is guilt on the Western Front, as far as I can see.

I LOVE you, Mr. M! You remain the most distinctive poster on this forum, and that's amongst a rogue's gallery of folks who earnestly want you to know what they think! :p

Not really. Anyone who has taken the Oath, be it military, civilian, or elected official understands there is no conflict but a hierarchy with the Constitution is by far the most important thing. There may be some Trumpers who will forswear their oaths but those will be in a relatively small minority. Shooting civilians for an illegal President? They'll be shot by those loyal to the Constitution.

You're missing the point. Both sides will think that they are the loyalists, defending the Constitution against an usurper who wants to overthrow the legitimate President.

Agreed. But call me an optimist, I just don't think this is going to happen. Right wing nutters can strut and posture, but when it comes to putting their LIFE on the line, almost all will pussy out.

A person who decides a Constitutional election is invalid is a loyalist to that President and not the Constitution. That is why I allowed for a small minority to support Trump. To do that they will have to murder people against civil war. That will end badly for them. If a service person decides to fire on people they have made themselves a legitimate target for everyone else as a Traitor and enemy domestic in a material sense. Firing or attempting to fire upon someone is an act of insurrection and that person's life is forfeit.

This is very very serious "You've never seen anything like this" stuff.

I accept that. The results will be like that in Jonestown, collective suicide with some innocents being killed.

And again- the folks on both sides will think this about the other side. Both will believe that their guy legitimately won the election, and that the other side are traitors who deserve no mercy.
