What are the odds of identical defects in the same board?

Ordered 2 Asrock Z87E-ITX mini-ITX boards 3 weeks apart from one another, both boards are exhibiting this problem: memory sticks will not work in slot 1 of either board but both sticks work in slot 2. Happens whether or not both memory slots are populated or only 1 stick of ram is installed. Memory was working perfectly fine when pulled from Asus motherboard.

Am I just extremely unlucky or is there some extremely weird compatibility issue going on or am I missing something else?

Not sure what you've tried yet?

Boot with 1 stick and setup memory to spec > shut down > install other stick?

Bump memory voltage up a little?

Compatibility list looks pretty big. http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87E-ITX/?cat=Memory

I haven't tried anything other than what I said. Both sticks were detected at the same time in prior ASUS board. Only ram slot #2 on both boards will detect stick. Slot 1 will not detect stick on either board regardless if slot 2 is populated or not.

I have team vulcan memory sticks, which while the exact model is not on the list, plenty of team modules are listed.

How far apart are the serial numbers?

Maybe a newer revision will fix it, but tbh I think it is VERY likely that the same boards will have the same incompatiblities.

When you try to boot with 2 sticks what happens?

Booting with 1 stick and setting to spec before adding the second stick wouldn't take much effort to try. Possibly bumping voltage up a tic or two wouldn't hurt either.

Boots as if only 1 stick is installed in working slot. I will try setting to spec to see what happens. Thanks.

EDIT: The first board actually gives me an error message (when two sticks are installed) saying error detected with memory slot A. The second board gives no error message.

Have you updated the BIOS on either one? BIOS 2.10 says it improves memory compatibility on this board.

Wow Kenmitch thank you so much. It's working now. I manually set the voltage and both sticks are now detected. Thank you so much. Such an easy fix I wish I would have been a little more patient before RMAing, ordering new boards, etc. Thanks again.
