Ok straight cliffs...

1. I was looking for a new job because If felt I wasn't getting the salary I deserved.

2. In my last two reviews I have gotten a promotion with no real increase in salary, just cost of living increase.

3. This week I had an interview, which today I got an offer (yah!)...that happened at 2:30 p.m.

4. At 3:30 p.m. I get a out of the blue meeting invite from my boss and his boss...I get a 11% raise...so basically putting me in line salary wise with the other job.

What are the gods telling me...seriously!!!

The gods may be telling you that your boss may not be completely clueless concerning your recent job hunting efforts. :sneaky:

Sounds like the information was leaked that you were offered a job somewhere else and now they are trying to keep you. But once you keep your current job w/ the pay raise, they'll give you even more work to do :p

Two questions you must ask yourself.

1. Do you like your current job?
2. What are the prospects for advancement salary wise at this new job?

1. I like the people, the job is not that great due to the workload, stress
2. Good...

Your current employer knows you're considering jumping ship & is trying to pay you an equivalent salary to stay. Its a tough choice but I think I'd take the new job. Considering you've never gotten anything but COLA increases, it maybe just be time to see if a new employer gives a shit about the work you've done for them.

If you stay your employer now knows you prob won't req a pay increase & do the same thing all over again.

I am quitting, I am doing it tomorrow...I HATE these kind of days, I suck a big one at dealing with this emotion...

It feels like I am letting people down and spitting in their face but in the end I think it is a good choice for me personally.

Anyone ever have an experience like this...where you truly had a great boss but a situation that you just wanted to get out of?

I hope he will understand ultimately and be cool about it and not give me a ton of grief.

Keep in mind that we're all professionals. He knows that you are ultimately after your own advancement in this world; there is nothing wrong or abnormal about that. Tell him honestly that you enjoyed working with him but that you'd like to try out new challenges. If you let the honesty in that statement shine through there is no way he will be anything but understanding.

I hope that is how it goes, I am envisioning it being a little more stressful than that though :)

I had a similar thing happen, except it was a 30% raise. I ended up taking the raise instead of the new job, and I sort of regret it now.

Yeah, loads of times in the past, you learn to get over it and realise business is business after a while, the sad fact is most people (if not all) in a workplace don't give a shit about you and are only interested in what they can get out of you for nothing.

at least you're getting cost of living increases, many aren't getting that anymore.

The fact that they're able to all of a sudden give you an 11% raise shows they've just been fucking you for years to see how long you'd take it. I wouldn't feel bad about leaving them in the dust, apart from your coworkers that didn't do anything but might see an increased work load all the same.

Part of the real world though. Don't think too much about it and move on.

my job i quit in July i had no personal issues with my boss and actually liked her a lot as well as the people i worked with (well most of them) but the work environment and project was going into the shitter due to the project management. i wasn't looking due to money at all, i was well compensated.

it was tough to give my 2 weeks notice and my boss tried everything she could do to get me to stay, but once she realized it really had nothing to do with money she knew there wasn't anything she could do and congratulated me and was happy for me.

you gotta do what you gotta do for yourself, not the companies you work for.

The gods are telling you that your boss has you under surveillance.

Don't think for a second these two events are a coincidence. They are just trying to give you a bone since you are jumping ship. If they thought you were worth the money they would of gave it to you without the threat of leaving.

I believe I would jump....just make sure your new job is concrete and official before turning in your notice.

Exactly this.

OP if you stay they're just going to keep bending you over as much as they possibly can; you even run the risk of them firing you once they find someone cheaper to replace you... and they won't give you two weeks notice.

Believe it or not, there are companies in the world that are extremely fair with compensation and want to help you do anything you can to earn more money from them. Working anywhere thats stingy on compensation but expects the world out of you is a waste of your life.

I've been in the same position you are in a few different times. I've stayed and then I have also left. The problem with staying is, don't expect to get another one of these types of raises (or possibly even a COL raise next year) in the future. What is the opportunity for growth at each company?

What kind of job do you have?
I work in IT

Not too much opportunity for growth...at the moment...but the amount of work...well that grows exponentially...

I am making the announcement in a little bit...hopefully goes ok.
