What are the must have games for PS3?

The $150 credit made me bite, and I bought a PS3, along with Resistance. What games are must haves? I'm considering getting MLB07. I have put off NCAA/Madden (I know Madden is not out yet) for reviews on Madden. I'm also considering Ninja Gaiden and R6. Bring the opinions!

Also, which movies should I get to show off my next gen goodness, besides the free ones of course 😉

People have said the port of R6 is not as good as the 360 version (ESPECIALLY the multiplayer which I consider the best part of the game). Still may tickle your fancy. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is definitely a bite and Motorstorm has some good graphics if you like racing games (I really don't like the gameplay as much as DiRT though which should be coming out for the PS3 in September...so I'd wait for that if I were you).

Oblivion is fun if you're an RPG guy...and looks/runs nicer on the PS3 than it did on the 360 (maybe this has been rectified in a 360 patch...but I'm not aware). I'd stay away from all EA sports games right now as they take a couple iterations to get decent on the next gen platforms although NHL 07 for the 360 was brilliant.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1&2 are great on the 360...so that might be a valid purchase for you on the PS3.

I'd try downloading the demos for all of these games and try them out. If you find something you like...buy it.

Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band should be coming out this fall, probably around november. Unfortunately GTA4 got pushed back to 2008. Also UT3, but I forget when that's coming out.

Movies - 300, Black Hawk Down, Goodfellas... unless you're made of money, you're going to want to rent rather than buy. Blu-Ray movies are always $20-$30, and IMO that's too much, unless you will watch it over and over again.

Games- Motorstorm is a good game, but it's lacking in off-line content. If you enjoy playing online, and you like the gameplay (download the demo and see for yourself), then it is a good buy.

Rainbow Six: Vegas is a very good game as well. If you're a fan of more tactical, realistic shooters, then you'll love it.

Ninja Gaiden: Sigma is good as well, although it's very difficult (I know the Xbox NG was, at least.)

Oblivion is a must-play if you haven't played it already on PC/360. Unless you absolutely hate RPGs, you're going to really enjoy it, and it's definately worth the money - there's not that many other games that will keep you playing for a solid 100 hours.

As for future games.... GRAW 2 will be coming out on the 21st... you can download the demo now.

Download demos to try before you buy. What I've played of the Armored Core demo was fun but I need to play more before deciding.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is good if you're a comics fan.

Heavenly Sword looks promising, there's a thread on it here.

Gamefly.com might make sense, pay one monthly fee instead of $60/game, and also get PS2 games like Final Fantasy X, XII, God of War 1-2, Katamari Damacy, ....

Movies: Get Netflix and rent.
The Fountain, Curse of the Golden Flower, The Host all looked great in 1080p.

we'll let you know when they come out?

This is true...
looking forward to Warhawk, Lair and GT5 Prologue later this year. I'll be getting Madden 08 next week though.

This is a list of guarantee must haves for ps3, I own the first three and they are great.

must haves so far:

resistance: fom
motorstorm
ninja gaiden

future must haves:

heavenly sword
mgs4
ff13

I cant speak for sports games, there are way too many for me to even try and guess which one is good, much less actually buy and play, also they are mostly multiplatformers.

With where PS3 games are right now, Gamefly makes perfect sense. I bought my PS3 about 2 weeks ago and got MLB: The Show just to play around. Additionally, I checked out NCAA 2008 and Resistance: FoM because it gives me something to play until I can purchase Madden 08, GTA IV, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, etc..etc..

There's not really much out right now. There's Resistance and Motorstorm right now. At the end of August, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam comes out, I played the demo. It was pretty fun. This is coming from someone who hasn't played any of the originals though. 😛 I know that Ratchet and Clank 5 is coming out this fall. 🙂

I think you guys are getting UT3 before we are. That's a no brainer purchase for me.
You guys being PS3 weirdos, us being XBox360 people. 😉

I like the ability to get demo's. i tried the heavenly sword demo and i really did not like it.

resistance is fun. just a pain useing the controller for a 1st person shooter. i really suck at it heh

mk2 is the only must have game ATM imo 🙂

how does mortal kombat 2 looks? better graphics? good online game play? n widescreen???

Same graphics, same everything, but with online play. The online play is right on. Some people are laggy but 75% of the time it's just like being in the arcade.

I wasn't that imrpressed either and am very happy I got to play the demo before having to purchase or rent it. Did you hands hurt after going through it by chance from all the button mashing?

Keep in mind, the demo is more than a year old which was confirmed at Ninja Theory's forum. Since then, the game has been significantly optimized, but I don't know why Ninja Theory didn't place that disclaimer in the demo. As far as button smashing, the devs indicated that the demo is early in the game and stated that your ass will be handed if you try to get by with button smashing later in the game.

I found the combat system to be very good. I didn't button smash at all, instead countering the attacks at the right moment for one hit kills. 😀

which is exactly what I want 😀

too bad I read you can't customize the controls which is lamo for those of us who like joysticks.

I currently own, in order:

Resistance: Fall of Man - cool game, basic shooter, interesting story, multiplayer was cool, overall: good/alright.
Oblivion: Awesome game. I played the PC version and its basically the same thing. Its a great time killer too.
MLB: The Show - I dont play this game solo. Normally when I have kick backs or friends over, this is a great game to play, especially when you throw in rules like, "each time i hit a home run off you, you down your jack n coke" 😀
Rainbow 6: Vegas - bought this game 2 weeks ago, AWESOMEEEEEE GAMEEE. I used to play R6 original rouge spear, etc on the PC. Its way different but its good. Its tactical and very fun. I haven't played multiplayer yet, but co-op is fun too. Great game all together.

hope this helps.

danny~!

kinda crazy... i actually had nightmares. i was traversing through space, through rocks, dodging bullets, boosted my way through enemies. there were explosions everywhere!!
