I wore New Balance for a while but for some reason the last couple of pairs haven't felt so great after a few weeks. Switched to Sketchers with gel cushions and while they are comfortble for some reason my socks are moving around and bunching under my toes. It's driving me nuts.

Any suggestions for sneakers and socks that are comfortable?

I don't wear sneakers, but heavy wool socks don't fall significantly, or bunch. It's all I wear.

Around the house I sometimes wear Nike roshe and puma sports socks. Very comfortable and my feet won't sweat but I never did a lot of walking in them.
Outdoors though I won't wear anything but my Timberland Pro Boots. I can walk all day in those and well tested in all day Smoky Mountain hikes and Gatlinburg shopping with the old lady, those used to be nightmares for me until I got these.

A good pair of wool socks will do wonders for your feet.
Smartwool are the only socks I wear.

I actually thought about doing this if i ever found a good sale on a pair.

It depends a bit on your feet. Certain styles fit certain feet better. Personally I like my ASICS kayanos the most of any sneaker I've had so far

Comfortable shoes are an individual thing. I usually end up with New Balance, but Rockports are also very comfy. For me. YMMV depending on the specifics of your feet.

Some of them feel like your walking on concrete with with your bare feet. Some have too much flex that's there's no support.

Agree with wool, I like Darn Tough and Wigwam, both available on Amazon.

I thought I'd sweat like crazy but I think I sweat less with wool than with cotton or any of the poly-blends.

Sounds like the shoes are to large for the feet/socks within.

That is why the socks are bunching.

Heavier sock will help, but also may cause more sweating.

Size your shoe better

Asics Onitsuka Tiger Serranos. It's like walking on a cloud, and they are really light. They also breathe moderately well for not having a bunch of high tech mumbo jumbo. Another plus is the fit, they work well with a variety of foot shapes, and are snug.

Pretty much defines the comfortable sneaker. They aren't meant for running, just walking and all day comfort. That being said, I know an avid runner that prefers this over anything Brooks, modern Asics, etc.

I also love Merrell trail and running shoes, especially the lighter weight shoes. If you need something for activities, these are worth a shot.

In addition, most of the "science"behind athletic shoes is straight up bullcrap. The throwback shoes is more than a fashion/hipster thing...they had it right before the Nike Air vs. pump arms race. Ever since then, every sneaker company in the world has some proprietary non-sense.
Some of the innovations can be useful, but most is just sensational marketing.

Also, learn not to become a heel striker. It's worth a visit to a podiatrist or a good general physician to look at your walk. A lot of people are terrible at it, or have something wrong with their feet, causing back/knee/hip issues later in life.
