I've been out of the scene for a while. I have a 9800pro, and athlon 2.38GHz + 1Gig RAM.

The last game I enjoyed was Far Cry. Before that was Age of Mythology/Age of Empires Series (I haven't played any of the ones that have come out in the past year or two).

I like RTS games and FPS games mostly, but I'm open for anything. I'm basically looking for an excuse to upgrade. I wont upgrade if there's no good games worth playing though.

Need for Speed: MW is a great looking arcade-style racing game, and GTR2 is a more realistic racing game with great graphics.

FEAR is an FPS with very realistic graphics and needs some good hardware to run.

Oblivion is a demanding RPG, and the graphics are awesome if you have good hardware to run it on.

An upcoming FPS, Crysis, is also supposed to have spectacular graphics.

EA did a very bad job making battle for middle earth 2, it has no story line from the movie! it feels very superficial!
the entire game can be completed in 4-5 hours (good side)

Current cool games with great GFx and an eXcuse to Upgrade . . .

Oblivion top the list. . . get the best rig you can afford . .. a real reason to upgrade . . . spectacular outdoor gfx [and a great hybred action/RPG with FPS style fighting game with hundreds of hours of play]
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

F.E.A.R. is best for it's Enemy AI and Particle effects . . . flawed game

i just got B&W2 . . . weird little RTS/'god' game with really nice GFX. . . . too soon to tell as i just started yesterday.

HL2 Ep1 & Riddick are good games [riddick is outstanding] - but not the 'latest' gfx . . .
HL2's Source Engine is looking particularly "tired" with its lack of shadows and lighting but will still run good on your currrent rig . . .

The point of Battle-for-Middle-Earth 2 was going beyond the movie. I'm guessing you haven't even heard of the first one? :disgust:

The first one sucked IMO, therefore i have no intention of buying the 2nd one. I did myself a favour yesterday and bought the riddick FPS and GTA san andreas. Gonna pick up FEAR at some point later.

Oblivion and F.E.A.R rule the roost for now. They booth look awesome, specially Oblivion when outdoors. It's like nothing you've ever seen. I like calling it 'Bethesa's Forest Simulator 2006'. F.E.A.R. has some fantastic real-time shadows which add to the creepiness of the game. Be aware however that both games are very demanding and only the high end of PC will play them as they should be played.

Crysis is coming soon however and it will likely set a new standard, both in terms of graphics and demands on the computers that will run it.

I got battle for middle earth 2 actually, and I agree with santz, I beat the good side in a few hours. Multiplayer wasn't that fun either.

So it's common knowledge that Oblivion has great graphics, but is it fun?

Also, I tried playing FEAR a while ago. I couldn't get into it, maybe because of my system, I couldn't run it with high settings, but it wasn't that fun, it was hard, but not that fun. Would this change if I could run it smoother and with higher eye candy?

I may as well get Half Life 2, since I can run that now and I never played it. I loved the original.

Half-Life 2 rocks, one of my fave games ever. I'm still very impressed with the graphics, but I admit I haven't seen FEAR, Doom 3 (yeah perhaps not on par with these other 2), or Oblivion yet, so I can't compare to them.

A great Multi-Player FPS: Battlefield 2
A great Single-Player FPS: F.E.A.R
Strategy: Rome: Total War (Two years old but an awesome experience. The expansion packs suck, though.)

prey, HL2, Doom3, Quake 4 all look similar to me. All im worried about is running through narrow dark passages shooting people.
