What are the best speaker systems for around $50?

I'm looking to buy some computer speakers but I dont want to spend more than $50 or so. Any suggestions. I've been looking at the Midiland Forzano 3 piece system, or the Creative FPS1000. I'd rather pay for a good 3 piece system than a crappy 5 piece system. Anyone use either of these two models?

I brought my Creative FPS1000 in Office Depot for $45 and it sounds prefect. But this only occure to the local stores, so you might have to look around. I brought it when it was in clearance back in May this year.

AlTEC lANSING's:
try ACS54, (its 4 speakers with a sub)
its around 50 bucks or more.

or ACS48 (2 speakers w/ sub; it may sound better than acs54 to some)
cost about 48 bucks.

my roomate got a Yamaha MST30 and it sounded quite impressive to me, (for sounds though, for games its ok)
its also around 50 bucks.

and yes, imo, fps1000 do suck, but back then, like 4 years ago, it was my most lusted componenet.

If you want even cheaper than that... I *LOVE* my 2-piece Altec Lansig ACS95 set. I liked them so much I bought 3 more sets for my family. They have fantastic sound for only 2 speakers.

You can't beat the price, ~$30.00 at most places. Just do a search.

Proadvantage has them for $25.38
http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/-s/fp_44143

Pricewatch is probably the best place to find them if you want one locally. Most small dealers carry them.

http://www.pricewatch.com/
Lowest price is
$21 plus unknown shipping.

$24.00 + $8.00 shipping is stated also for Techstore.com.

oh yeah, the ACS95 do sounds good...
but without a sub, its does sound a bit inferior, especially in games.

if price is a concern, 95 is way to go.

PCWorks from Cambridge SoundWorks....now affiliated with Creative. Many stores have them in stock. They will outperform $100 speakers.

I'm going to say ACS54 or 48

the 48s are a bit more powerful but don't have the rear stats.

The 95 are also nice, but I like having a separate subbie.

Cambridge PCWork FPS1000:

no NO NO!!!!!

These things have perfectly fine Sats, but they have the $hittiest sub I've ever heard...a Sub Woffer with a plastic enclosure is bad enough, but that thing has absolutely no power at all. It starts to rattle around the 100Hz level at 80 dB....

They are cheap though...unfortunately it's in both senses of the word.

Edit: I put a little more emphasis on audio than most people though it seems, perhaps because I'm partially blind, the FPS1000 may sound fine to most people, but I really don't like the Sub.

I say get PCWorks from Cambridge SoundWorks if you want really cheap, excellent sounding speakers. They are the same ones as the FPS1000 except don't have the rear speakers.

I have used Altec-Lansing's cheaper model speakers also and they are really awesome too, for a slightly higher price.

goto staples or officemax or office depot, see if you could try out the speakers first

usually Labtec, Logitech, some Creative, and Yamahas are on display.
imo, stay away from PCworks, include FPS1000.
