What are the best security add-ons for Firefox 19? And what are some things I can do to make my browser moar secure?

I also have another question about Java. I recently wiped my boot drive and did a fresh install. I thought I needed Java. Security Essentials found an exploit in Java. I uninstalled it. 5 days later MS Security Essentials finds the same exploit: even after I've uninstalled Java...

Windows 7 64 ..

Thanks

You can use No-script with firefox which is a very nice add-on however it can get frustrating and impede your experience.

Best idea. FF for 95% of your web activities and use Chrome when you need to use flash.

That way you surf without flash support which is where most malware gets in.

Adblock+ with Fanboys ultimate list
Set plugins to click to play
https everywhere
NoScript
Block 3rd party cookies
BetterPrivacy
Use search that doesn't track. I like DuckDuckGo, Startpage is good too

Don't install Java unless you need it. I'm guessing you got a hit on residual config files, but I dunno.

Yeah, I think the Java thing was a config file left-over in the temp directory.

What about those add-ons up above? I've searched the exact names on those and most didn't come up. Https everywhere, is this an add-on or like the others = some things I can tweak in FF ?

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions so far

I don't bother with the newer version of Spybot. I like the simpler older version.

Yea that was my initial reaction - but the new version does have a bunch of new added tools and still does the old stuff.

Back when I used Windows, I dropped SpyBot. It never did anything, and was just another program to update. I got tired of updating it.

Flash videos are quite common.
