So I've had COD4 for the PS3 for a little while, but just got around to playing multiplayer a little over a week ago, dunno how I could have waited for so long, its excellent.

I'm now up to level 30, and I primarily use the M4 w/ AGOG Scope and usually take Claymore, Double Tap and Martyrdom.

Is there another combo that would be more effective at my rank?

AK-47 with ACOG, Stopping Power, Bandolier, and Dead Silence is my setup for non-HC games. The AK is very powerful and combined with Stopping Power it gives you a huge advantage over M4 or P90 users. Dead Silence is useful if you have really good speakers so you can hear other guys moving, but otherwise use something like Steady Aim or Deep Impact.

For HC, I like the P90 with Sleight of Hand.

I hate the ACOG, I prefer the RDS. If I can see someone, I can hit him with the RDS. I use silencer sometimes as well.

M16 is a great gun. G36 is also great. I've started using shotguns on some maps, mostly for the lulz - they work pretty well in close quarters.

I usually use Claymores. I either set them up to protect my back if I'm staying in one position for a while, or I put them around random corners to get a guy when he doesn't expect it. The other two I usually use are stopping power and deep impact.

I think it's all personal - most of the guns are pretty strong.

I generally go with the M4 - not sure why, I just enjoy it from the beta days. Also enjoy the G36, but the best silenced weapon is hands down the AK because of the iron sights.

as far as i remember martyrdom was the most irritating perk sneaking up to knife your opponent in a small room with nowhere to run and as soon as you kill him you are greeted in the face with a live grenade.

also, overkill is very good and a sniper+action combo is very useful in overkill(dont remember when you unlock it)

My favorite is AK-47 with RDS on wide open maps. On close quarters maps, I use silencer.
Deep Impact
Stopping Power
Bandolier
Smoke

On maps like Bog i use the same setup except I use M-16 instead.

It really depends on YOUR play style, though... some people may not live long enough to need bandolier, etc.

I pretty much always use the G3 with a grenade launcher. This is on the pc, though. I'm definitely not good enough with the controller on my xbox to be able to use it.

for perks I use Stopping power and Last stand (or martyrdom for smaller maps)

I need to get back into CoD4, such a great game. Haven't played it in probably 3 months though.

Can't remember my K:D ratio (I wanna say 1.8:1 or so).

I used a few different setups.

Most effective is the P90 + silencer, radar jammer, steady aim, 3x grenades.

One I used most often was M16 or M4/stopping power, deep impact for M16 or steady aim for M4, 3x grenades.

mp5, silencer, uav jammer, dead silence for smaller maps
m16, red dot, stopping power, steady aim for ridiculous easy kills in larger maps

Yeah, the M16 is practically a 1-shot kill in HC without stopping power or in SC with it. Since it fires in a burst, you're much more likely to hit the target as well, but it prevents you from getting out of hand and reducing your accuracy by going full auto.

haha yeah as soon as I saw 3x frag and martyrdom that's what I thought..

I don't mind people who use those because they are basically just wasting perks.. 3x frag is only good on shipment because that map is a grenade spamming party anyways.

Is martyrdom really considered a newb perk? I know its annoying, but I seem to get quite a bit of kills with it so I usually keep it on. Plus its nice revenge on those assholes who sneak up behind you then get stuck running into something :)

I don't tend to vilify individual people for much of anything in CoD4. Not the noob tube (which I think is perfectly balanced), not random grenade spamming, not silence Skorpions, and not even Martyrdom. The problem is when it seems like everyone has Martyrdom on.

Thing is, if you are paying attention, it's not THAT hard to avoid. I've even tossed some Martyrdom grenades away when I was unable to escape in time. Throwing random frag grenades in the general direction of the other guys will get you maybe 1 or 2 kills in one match, and Martyrdom may give you about the same. When everyone is grenade spamming and using Martyrdom, though, it gets frustrating.

However, going 3xFrag + Martyrdom is really assuming very little of yourself. It requires you to die to use one of the perks, and every time you die and respawn you get another three grenades to spam. Going Dead Silence + Bandolier is much more useful if you don't die constantly.

It's not really a newb perk at all, in fact it's probably a pretty funny one to use in close quarters maps when people have to be up close to kill you/run away.

But on a wide open map there are much better perks to use. It all depends on skill level also. If you tend to stay alive longer then martyrdom is a complete waste. Better off with stopping power and bandolier or something like that.

I have a few friends who do nothing but spawn, throw 3 frags, die and then repeat. People are CONSTANTLY bitching at them it's pretty funny. Especially on maps like ambush and bog.

I think the problem some people have with it is you're getting kills that you don't "earn"

I can't stand it, myself, and like people mentioned, it's only any good once you're already dead versus perks that benefit you while you're alive. I prefer to get my vengeance by sneaking up and knifing them ;)
