What are the best-looking cars of the past decade?

I've been pondering the question of my favorite modern cars, from a looks perspective. Honestly, in part this was motivated by my purchase of an E46 M3, which is among my favorites. It's the first car I've owned that I consider beautiful, and while I've always been a form-over-function guy it's nice to have such a handsome car.

With all that as background, what do you think are the best-looking cars made since 2000? My list, in no particular order:

- Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale - I found the 360 just stunning when it hit the market, and to me it's still the prettiest-ever "entry-level" Ferrari. The Stradale is just a bit prettier than the standard car.

Ferrari&

- Aston Martin DB9 - For my money Astons are the most beautiful modern cars, and the proportions of the DB9 are, to me, just a bit more appealing than those of the other Astons, all of which look essentially the same.

- BMW E46 M3 - I think this might be, strictly aesthetically, my favorite BMW, better even than the 507, Z8, and 3.0csl, my other top BMWs. I think the M3 is just a stunning combination of masculinity, refinement, and, well, BMW-ness. I wish they'd had another design that was this successful since (actually I think the E92 M3 is the closest they've come). It's hard for me to think of another car I can actually afford that's as sexy.

- Ferrari 550/575 - I used to think this design was a little bland for a V-12 super-Ferrari, but the 599 (which I don't love) has helped me appreciate the aggressive elegance of the 550 and 575. The front overhang is a little much but I still love the design.

- Porsche 997 GT3 - As a general proposition I love 911s, and the 997 design is undeniably prettier than the 996 (again, we're talking the last decade only, and although I'd love to include the Singer 911, this thread is about production cars). With that in mind I think the "normal" 997 GT3 is the best-looking Porsche in the last decade.

- Alfa 8C Competizione - By all accounts this is not a stellar car, and God knows it costs the moon for an Alfa. Personally I wouldn't pay >Ferrari money for an Alfa that is worse to drive. That being said, it is a thing of great beauty, and that is the point of this thread.

- Mercedes SL 65 Black - Like many AMG cars, this one seems to be far more motor than chassis, and not anything stellar from a driving perspective, but it has stupid power and looks roughly 1000 times better than the SLR or SLS. I LOVE the looks.

- Ferrari 458 - I don't find this car exactly pretty, but it rocks my world about as much as any modern car. I was just blown out by the pics when it was first shown, and I still find it amazing that a production car can be this swoopy. I can't seriously fault any design this freaky-awesome.

I'm sorry, but I think the E46 BMW is by far the ugliest 3 Series ever made.

I really wanted to get one for a used car, but just couldn't bear to look at it.

Not sure what it is about it. Looks kind of bloated, and the doors look almost indented a little, and there is that stupid crease mark down the middle of them..

I love the e30, e36 and even the new e92 "Bangled" ones. I'm not sure why they are getting such a bad rap. They look as good as anything on the road today.

I wouldn't go as far to say its a particularly pretty car design, the front end is too "fierce" and the body work too jagged, but it is a damn sight to see, especially in person. It is just so fun to look at.

To each his own, but I own an E90 and don't really like its design. For my money the E46 is the best looking 3 series, followed in order by the E36, the E30, the E90 and the original 3 series cars. I find it hard to understand how anyone could be so offended by the looks of the E46. In terms of the M3, from an aesthetic perspective I'd rank them in this order: E46, E30, E90/92/93, and E36.

I always liked the NSX too. Best looking Japanese car of all time.

I quite like the NSX (I like the original design with the pop-up headlights better than the refresh), but the original car is such an old design that I didn't think of it. Despite its age I would still consider the first-gen design as one of my favorite cars in the past decade.

I agree most of OP's list with an exception of E46 M3. I think E46 is the ugliest 3 series, maybe even one of the ugliest BMW's. Any E9x has better looking than E46 to me. To each his own for sure.

I don't want to get run off the board so won't post a pic, and maybe this design will look stale soon, but one of the more striking designs--for a good reason--I've seen recently is in the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. No, I don't own one. But they really just look very nice to me. For SUVs far and away the current Toyota Highlander is the best looking. Again, gets to me in a very positive way.

I don't own either vehicle.

Agree with most of the OP's assessments.

Ferrari 360. Still the best looking Ferrari produced the last 30 years. 458 is hot but it has ugly front headlights. If you replaced the 458 front with the one from the Enzo it would be perfect.

Any recent Aston Martin 2-door looks pretty hawt to me. I used to see one on occasion in the Lake Forest, IL area. Didn't know which exact model it was, but recognizable as an Aston Martin. It looked... wonderful IRL!

Oh yeah! BITD when I was getting my Contour SVT serviced at my SVT authorized Ford dealer, they had one in the showroom. Beautiful!

Here's my addition to this thread. If I won the lottery (if I ever played the lottery, I would of course, as predicted by my daydreams, win) and if there wasn't a several-year wait, I would purchase a Morgan Aero SuperSports.

Click on the image for more pics at Morgan's official site. I know it is a bit cross-eyed, but so is Kym Johnson and she's hawt too! Anyways, back to the Morgan...

Indeed, to each his own, but most consider it to be the opposite and one of the finest. Of course I am very, very biased.

I have thought Morgans have been beautiful cars for a long time now starting with the Aero 8. kind of wish Lincoln or Cadillac would do a retro style in that vein.

Maybe the nicest four door I've seen? Does look a LITTLE like a fish, though. Fisker Karma
