You should get the Sony MDR-NC5 noise cancelling headphones.

Funny, my roommate is also looking for headphones ;)

I personally am a big fan of Koss - I've owned the $50 porta pro's for a couple years now and would rather cut off my ears than use something different.

I've never used the high-end Koss but I would imagine that they sound better.

COuple of my audiophile friends have Sennheisers and swear by them. CHeck out a $100 pair of those (dunno any model numbers)

*edit*

Lol you guys are roommates? Funny stuff

Xitel forcefeedback headphones and they are only $39.99. They are the best IMHO.

I too am looking at headphones around the $100 range. My brother is deadset on getting the Sennheiser HD-590s, but those cost $200. I've also looked at the HD-570s, but still not sure. I've found HD-500s for around $60, might up those and save a few bucks. :)

another vote for grado's. the sr-60s kick serious ass, and for a bit more the sr-80s have just a bit more bass and are a lil more warmer in sound, still under $100 though:)

The Grado's are so uncomfortable to me. Tried them at a local hifi store and I couldn't wear them for more than 5 minutes. The Sennheiser bionetic ones were the most comfortable headphones I've ever tried on. I'm also looking at the Sony MDR-V6, supposedly really good headphones for about $80. :)

Grados are the way to go! I have a pair of SR60's with the newer earpads (more comfy) and they rock! For $100 though you could probably pick up a pair of SR80's.

CKY: Xitel headphones? LMAO! I got a pair of those with my (short-lived) Xitel soundcard, and they stunk! The cord was really flimsy, and the only way to get halfway decent bass out of them was to turn on the "force feedback" feature, and I could only stand about 5 minutes of that before it got old...

For the money the Koss PortaPro's can't be beat, if you need something around $50 they're the way to go!

Damn, my friend has the sr80s and they kick ass. I've seriously never heard anything better except for maybe his $800 stereo system. I would so get them if I had the money, but it looks like those sh!tty sony behind the head ones are the best I can get :(

If you like bass, check out a pair of Sony V6s. Around $70-80.

I've got a pair of Grado Sr60s and they sound awesome, but could use a little more bass at times.

Is there a store that carries the Senniheisers and gracho's, so that I can hear them and see how they fit? I live in LA.

Sennheiser HD545. Critically acclaimed and they're everything I ever wanted in a headphone. The only con is that they're kinda cumbersome and a wee tight for awhile until you break them in. They need an amp, or Panasonic ST470 CD player to sound decent.

I still love mine:)
