What are the best detonators to use with my GeForce2 MX & DX 8a?

I'm presently using the 6.67 detonators and Directx 8a. I'm not happy with this setup, because I'm experiencing random freeze ups & getting kicked out of simple games like AOE. Any ideas?

I normally download the unofficial drivers from guru3d (link) and to add to the confusion, today, I see that the official Nvidia release is 6.5, while guru3d also offers, albeit unofficially:
10.50 detonators
7.52 detonators
6.88 detonators
Can anyone please explain what is going on and why there are so many possibilities?

these are 'leaked' beta unofficial drivers. 6.50 are the official drivers from nvidia.com.

So there are 4 possibilities:
1.) you take the drivers that came with the card or download newer drivers from the manufacturer (they are supported by them!)
2.) you install leaked beta unofficial drivers like the 6.88 or 7.52
3.) you install official 6.50 Detonator from nVIDIA
4.) hand-made drivers (enables o/c'ing tab etc.)

Officially, no release supports directly DX8 but games that use DX8 will still run with 6.X Detonators. But the unofficial 7.x series does support DX8.

Just try a bunch of different versions and see which you get most fps in. 7.XX suck for d3d and are only for Geforce2 cards I believe, or maybe its just Geforce cards.(I have tnt2) 6.50 are hella nice, fixed a hang on shutdown problem for me, and give me best fps out of most of them. The NEW 1.0.5.0 are good to. I just tested those yesterday. Gave me about 2 fps increase. 😀

I have the latest official drivers from NVidia and was wondering first, since I dont have ANY problems w/this release, if I should upgrade to one of the beta drivers? Second, if I do upgrade to say, 7.52, do I have to remove old driver first? I dont think I removed release 6.49 when I upgraded to 6.50.
thanks
