Along with the Lucas Arts games, the Sierra games were very popular (King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest etc... ). 'Supposedly' most of the Sierra series are getting reissued in sets retooled to run on XP (but not other wise updated).

There was a game I played back in the day called Loom. It was pretty fun to play the first couple times aroud..but not really something you'd want to play repeatedly.

I loved all the LucasArts and Sierra games...they were so awesome. Is tehre anyone to get those games to play again? Shouldn't they be cheap too now that they're outdated?

Anyone remember games where you'd use the arrows to move between screens but you'd have to type commands to get the character to do something? For example, "Read the wall" or "look in the cave".

Ugh, I remember playing these games in late 80's but I can't remember the frickin' names or even the genre.

You mean games like Zork or Adventure?

Yep, I remember those fondly. The horrible, awful, never fun, 3-hour-total, point-n-click games took over and killed these fun, thought-provoking, months of entertainment games.

And adventures games are not dead, they are quite alive in the independent market. My top three adventure games of recent years...

1) Return To Mysterious Island EVERY puzzle made sense.

2) Dark Fall: The Journal Spooky fun.

3) The Longest Journey

There are a ton of other new ones that I haven't got around to playing yet...
Voyage
Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern
Egyptian Prophecy
Syberia
Syberia 2
Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure

Also... Alot of the Lucas Arts Adventure people have left L.A. and have formed their own companies...
Telltale Games doing the 'Bone' series.
and
The very promising 'Vampyre Story'

QFT.

I LOVED the first one. My friend and I were just pulling our hairs out trying to beat the game, and it was so rewarding at the end. Damn, that was when I was in 8th grade.

Yeah, like Zork. Now I just have to remember what the one I played was called. I've been playing games from my childhood lately.

If you want to run these game in XP have a look for a program called ScummVM (spelling may be different). Worked perfectly for me.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I looked in my box of old games and I have all 4 monkey islands, grim fandango, sam and max, phantasmagoria, 11th hour, all the tex murphy games, etc.

I always wanted to try the Indian Jones games from lucas arts but never got to. Hopefully I'll be able to get a hold of them.

Oh, and I read online that apparently on march 30 you can buy box sets of some of the classic games on Amazon. We'll see if that happens. There is also a site that is redoing the Kings Quests games and has them available for download right now. I'll find the link and paste it later.

I guess I'll just have to look for them on ebay in the meantime.

I never play these games. I've got a brand new Myst URU) game in my FS thread though.
