I believe warm water doesn't exist on the West Coast of the US unless you include Hawaii.

Actually, the Oregon coast is strangely warm compared to the beaches I've been at in California between San Diego and Frisco. :Q

Coronado Beach. #2 in the US as voted by Travel Channel
Newport Beach. Top 10 by Travel Channel

I have last month's Los Angeles magazine at home. It has SoCal's 25 best beaches in it. I'll post the info if you PM me to remind me.

<gloat> Staying at Coronado's Hotel Del in 2 weeks for the weekend; got a room for only $160 a night :D </gloat>

Long Beach - Vancouver Island - British Columbia (very sceanic, and it is amazing that you can find miles of nice sandy beach with out a person in sight, and please don't come here)

Gold Beach - Oregon (most amazing sunset that I have seen)

New Port Beach - California (great place for people watching - volley balls & roller blades)

La Jolla Beach - California (warmest water in North Amercia & is beautiful)

Playa Los Muertos- Mexico (warm water but too many people - tourist trap)

Dude, are you on crack?
You must have been there during a very strange ocean current pattern.
I've lived in Oregon for 30 years (except 6 montsh spent in San Diego) and spent plenty of time on the coast.
The water at Oregon beaches is usually so cold it hurts for the first few minutes. After that, you go numb. Not many people put more than their feet in without a full wetsuit, or better yet, drysuit.

The water at Pacific Beach in SD is very nice. We were bodysurfing in December without wetsuits and it wasn't bad at all.

When I lived in SD, Coronado Beach was always full of seaweed and was closed half the time because of pollution from the Tijuana river. Is it any better now?

If you want nice warm sunny beaches, I'd vote for La Jolla, Newport and Hermosa.

I find that I really enjoy the fog that hangs around in San Francisco's beaches

From personal experience:

Manhatten Beach
Newport Beach
Zuma (for surfing)
Venice (for freak watching)

That's just LA Area. You can't really compare the beaches here to the ones in Florida, but as long as your south of Ventura, it's not that cold.
