What are the benefits of turning ACPI on? Is it better turned off (in bios)? This is for a Win2K machine.

I didn't like ACPI and how all my devices shared the same IRQ.

After turning ACPI off, I received a nice boost in FPS in games.

I don't think you can just turn it off in bios if you already have win2k installed (you might get a BSOD). You can turn it off in device manager by switching your computer from ACPI to Standard PC...Or if you turn it off in bios and reinstall, then ACPI will be off.

Please read my FAQ regarding ACPI in Win2K.

While I have not really outlined the benefits of ACPI, they include better power management, better resource management, hibernation, and other neat things.

with my laptop and acpi turned on and Windows ME installed, it would freeze my laptop intermittenly and at weird intervals.

now, i've got win2k i've run this thing for 3 straight days, no freeze ups.

i'm thinking mb acpi and win me don't like each other.

Unless you have non-ACPI compliant hardware, I would go for ACPI. I have used ACPI in win2k and now WinXP and especially with a lot of devices to configure, it makes setting up your rig much easier. Never any problems in 10 months on this rig.
