PM PAB (psycho andy's brother). He regularly hits up the car auctions and can probably give you the best idea of going rates.

Sorry for the attempted hijack - but I just really had to ask as this mystery has been bothering me for a bit now.
How are these types of auctions usually conducted? I've always wondered about this stuff and even made an effort to do some research as well but when I got bombarded with the ad's all over the web for this stuff I gave up. So the entire process is still a mystery to me. Are there places you can check when/what type of auctions are going on? What are some common rules on attending etc?

Hrm, I lived in Florida for a while and everytime I asked a dealer about an auction they usually said they dont do them or they were always rare and private - so I was under the impression that it was almost an underground type thing for people "in the know". Also, sorry I didnt mention earlier, but my question is not in regards only to dealer, but repo and govt auctions as well... not sure if many would have info on them though.

Where in Florida?
In BFE, yeah you're right.
There are a BUNCH of auctions around here. Most repos run through at dealer only. Government sales are through GSA.
In FL, there are like 6 auctions I can hit in two days
FAAO in Ocoee - 5000-7000 units weekly
SADE in Sanford - 4000 units weekly
OLAA in Longwood - 1-2000 units weekly
ADESA in Sanford - Salvage
DADE in Daytona - 2000-3000 units weekly
Hometown auction - couple hundred
You will not go to an auction for Repos only. They roll them into the regular dealer auction. Repo's run right next to new car trades.

It depends on whether it's a dealer only auction, or open to the public.
If the public is involved, then stupidity will take over and people will bid up to and past the real street value of the car. The same can happen with some dealer only auctions, but it's rare.
Another thing to consider is that when a car goes to auction it is either a repo, or a trade-in that was not good enough to keep and resell. Buyer beware.

Port St Lucie to be exact, and it's a pretty quiet place yeahThanks for the info though, are there places on the web that you're willing to share? Maybe sites that post schedules or something. What type of auctions can the general public usually get access to?

Most cars that run through Manheim auctions are inspected and if the dealer you are with is good he will be able to tell if there is PPW etc. I bought and sold cars for 4 years through Manheim's Auction in PA, FL, MI etc and very rarely had problems. Also my last 3 cars were from auctions and the only issue I ever had was bad faulty battery, but it was a German(VW) car so electrical problems were to be expected.

FYI -
you can pick up that age S2000 on http://www.s2ki.com for a very similar price. I've seen 01's as low as $14k on there with not too many miles.

Thanks for the site. Looked at the site marketplace briefly and saw couple that peaked my interest. I've been itching to get a weekend toy car and I've decided on the S2000. I've set aside about 24k cash for one but problem is trying to find decent one. I've called two local sellers today. Both were sold.![]()
