What are the alcohol by % limits for beer in WV, VA, and NC?

I'm looking to get some Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA here (I live in Ohio), but they cap the limit on beer at 12%. DFH 120 IPA is 21%. But... I've got family in South Carolina, which while it has a recockulously low limit, means that they will be traveling through North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia on their way to Ohio. According to www.ratebeer.com, it should be available in VA. Does anyone know for certain?

go to michigan, it's worth it. most whole foods stores stock it at a decent price (which is still $8.50 a bottle... yes, 12oz bottle)

seriously...one of the best IPAs you will ever have. And packs quite a punch - it sneaks up on you.

the 90 min (%9) is excellent too, and much more affordable.

I believe it is only 6% in WV. There was some talk of raising it recently, but I really haven't paid that much attention to it.

21%... as in stronger than most hard liquor?

stronger than wine, not sure about liquor. 42 proof. its a little bitter.
whoops, i was confused with proof and % again (its about half as strong as regular liquor)
21% is insane for a beer though, most i have had is about 12%

i will have to order one of these for my friends at a bar 🙂

just looked at the bar/restaurant where we like to go and they only have the 60 minute. its in VA so maybe there is some sort of cap?

the 90min IPS ia MUCH better then the 120

the DOgfish Hear World Wide Stout was 25% the year we got it, the warmer it got the worse it tasted you really need to almost chug it when it was REALLY cold cause it was bad

the 90 min. is more of an "everyday" beer, but I wouldn't call it better. they're different animals.

That's kinda the thing about the 120 that I like...it's a high potency beer you can enjoy for more than a few sips of "oh, that's interesting." There's a few stouts in the 20-26% range, they all have so much sugar in them to counter the bitterness, that they pretty much taste like syrup. they're all pretty nasty, if you ask me, even if they do have some great taste underneath the sticky-sweet consistancy.

I think they got the 120 at total beverage.

Well, I'm going to be picking it up by the case, as I know several people around here that want a half case each. It looks to be an expensive proposition.

i've never had a 120, but I don't really have the desire to either... 21% is too much for a beer, it is more like a cognac at that point.

I personally think the IPA 60 is better than the 120, but they are both good.

in that case you might just want to call some distributors:

I've never seen it sold retail in any form of a pack, only by the bottle.

you're kind of right, it's not something that even if I could afford to I would drink often (it's a bit over the top for that)

but it is very tasty and does taste like an IPA. good to have every great once in a while.

I wasn't that impressed by the 60, it's kind of a decent, standard IPA. the 90 is a whole different league IMO, and the 120 is somewhere on another planet.
