What are the advantages of the higher HTT?

Lots of folks drop the multiplier to raise the HTT and I was wondering where the performance benefits appear when this is done. Gaming, encoding, daily use? Also, many people have to use a divider to drop the memory from 200 to 166 or even 133 and I wanted to ask where the negatives of doing this show up. Assuming they do of course. Thanks.

like diogenes says, theres very little benefit, especially in real world. alot of people use synthetic benches to guage their system performance and you will see some increased bandwith but thats about it.

you can see some measures here

It doesn't increase performance if you increase it to 1000Mhz so don't worry about it.
