what are the advantages of a SATA raid 1 over an IDE raid 1?

I planning a 250-400GB 2 disk mirrored array for my new machine. I have an open IDE port and 2 Promise SATA RAID ports on my ASUS AV8 Deluxe. The disk is used for critical storage and audio work.

Would SATA perform better? It's more expensive and if I went IDE instead I could use a 250GB drive I already own.

Thanks
John

Edited to correct my ignorance, revealed below, thanks Zepper

smaller cables. Unless you can afford Raptors...
.bh.

BTW, RAID-1 is mirrored - RAID-0 is striped. And be aware that RAID-1 ISN'T an adequate backup solution. It is just to limit down time.
. You still need a file-by-file backup to removeable media or an external hard drive (my preference).

Where's the :sun: ?

1:SATA has faster transfer rate (normally 150MB/s --theoretically said 😉) comparing to IDE harddisk. (mostly, 100MB/s or 133MB/s)
2.Raid 0 improves write-read speed and Raid 1 acutally protects your from ONE harddisk PHYSICAL failure but increase load on your computer. For the home user, AS Zepper said, raid-1 ISN'T an adequate backup solution.
The plan is:
use fast 10k SATA Raid 0 as system volumn (to run OS)and save data on cheap IDE harddisk
have 2 IDE harddisk or one IDE harddisk has at least 2 partition.
write a script to run everyday to automatically backup your data from one partition or one harddisk to another.

Not to usurp the thread, but something I've been wondering. Is it possible to use two hdds in RAID 0 and have multiple partitions/dual boot?

Cabling and slight improvement of bursts (but just enough to show up in benchmarks).
Mainly cabling.

P0ldy: yes.

It is not faster, other then the raptors sata is the same thing, rounded IDE cables easily can be found. If you want sata, wait for sata2 since the current sata has no big improvment.
