What exactly do you mean with "sever boards"?

I'd guess the biggest difference is the price.

Yeah, there's a lot of different kinds of server boards out there.

Often, they have 64bit PCI, one advantage. The only real overall difference is that no server board really supports overclocking, and they are usually very stable (kind of have to be for the target market).

Most come with SCSI controllers built in, and many are dual processor capable. They tend to support huge amounts of RAM too, using things like ECC.

They have a lot of things that a "normal" user doesn't need. Or else they cost too much to put them out of price range.

Edit: Big disadvantage is that they generally don't have an AGP port either.

Their advantage is that they pass through a different Q&A process than desktop boards. This is true even for boards with the same chipset.

Physically, most server boards dont have AGP, they have PCI-X and a superior I/O backplane.

Super Micro X5DAE = best compromise between server stability and workstation speed and features.

if a server board as agp slot, its most likely a agp pro slot which is physically bigger than agp4x, 8x. its backwards compatible with 4x cards, not sure bout 8x.

Radeon 9700 and 9800 pros work like a champ on the X5DAE. Nothing will crash the system and I mean nothing.

Well, there is one exception. UPS is hardwired in the building SO tripping over the power cord IS bad! :Q

Server mobos are built for stability, priority one.

Desktop/Consumer boards, unless built cheaply or are on the "value" end, are often for peak-performance-squeeze-every-last-ounce-out-of-my-gear, and aren't necessarily as stable.
