Keep in mind that Lappy's tend to have probs so if you can afford any additional warranty coverage for the LCD or the keyboard, do so...they're both the main problem areas. Also, be sure that you'll be able to buy a replacement battery for cheap in the next year or buy a second one to start with. I just got a new Dell Lattitude and made sure I got 2 batteries.

It depends on what's important to you.

Dell - best value, hardware, features and support wise.
IBM ThinkPad - best laptops period but not as loaded as the Dell.
Compaq Presario 900 or 1500 - I own the 1500T, awesome laptop got mine for only $837

Yeah...I guess that $1300 would probably have to include some sort of warranty...3 years I guess... actually, 2 would work
