What are some ways to clone a hard drive of different sizes?

I want to clone a regular 1TB hard drive to a 960GB Solid state. Is it possible? If so what are the ways?

i just cloned a 512 gb drive to a 256 gb drive

the 512 didn't have a lot of data, in fact about 100 gb, so i reduced the main partition (C) in size in disk management and left 358 gb as "unallocated"

cloned without a hitch - worked with both EaseUS ToDo Backup and samsung's Data Migration software

I do it regularly with Acronis TI using Proportional setting. Never a problem.
