i need some names, and rates... im gonna have 3 days backpacking in that region and plan to spend 2 days in BC, then go back to Seattle for 1 day and fly home.

Anyways, I need to know of some ways to get back to Seattle from Vancouver. Are there grayhound/train lines? If possible, I think I'd like to ferry from VC -> Victoria -> Seattle.

Yeah there's a Greyhound line from Vancouver to Seattle.
You can also Amtrak it down to Seattle too.

The only ferry route I know that goes to Washington state is from Vancouver to Victoria/Nanaimo to Port Angelas.

Have fun

which would you recommend for convenience/price? im pretty much gonna do things on-the-fly..not much planning as to when and where... so i think id need something that operates quite frequently

Not really... in Vancouver buses only come around every 1/2 hr... you will waste a lot of time just waiting for public transportation...

As for cabs, you will have to call one... they don't drive around on the road looking for customers...

I second the Amtrak route. Seems to me I did it one drunken weekend in the mid 90s to catch a Mariners game.

Oh man, Greyhound. I had the most ghetto experiences with them during Spring Break and I'll never Greyhound again. At approx 40 hours straight, each way, it was a long trip.

Anyways, yes, there is a Greyhound line between Vancouver and Seattle (I took that one!). But I live in Vancouver and if you want to go to places to sightsee, definately rent a car. Public transportation is ok, just depends where you're going. Cabs are hell expensive I think and if you're going to a lot of places, I'd think renting a cheap car is a better idea.

Hostels eh? The Cambie Hostel had a burger and a beer special for 5 bucks. But I don't know if they still have it, last time I went there was like over 6 months ago.

The Amtrak rail line ends in Seattle, then they use a bus (IIRC, Greyhound) to take their passengers up to Vancouver (and vice versa). There is also a ferry that runs from Vancouver to Seattle, but I can't remember if it actually stops in Victoria or in Sidney (a town about 20 miles north of Victoria on the island).
I'm going to be up there next week, but I'll be driving. Portland > through Seattle > car ferry out of Anacortes > Sidney > 3 nights in Victoria > car ferry to Vancouver > 1 night in Vancouver > drive down to Seattle > 1 night in Seattle > home. Should be a fun little vacation. :)
