What are some silent case fans?

Also, right now I have two fans in the front of my system that are intake. Now would it be best to turn these off? I have heard that it brings dust in, adds noise, and does not cool anything very well? Is this true?

It is actually better for dust to have them, but if you've got an exhaust fan, take 'em out and buy some canned air. For quiet fans, I'd say see how cooling is without the intake. If it is still fine, look into a Panaflo L for exhaust. You're going to have some temp rise for being quiet, but it doesn't need to be extreme.

The Arctic Cooling 80mm Pro TC is a great fan. It's thermally controlled so it'll run at 1000-1500RPM when your system isn't that warm. And at those speeds, it's hardly audible.

But you should really look into using 120mm fans and a PSU that have thermally controlled fan connectors, (like the Antec TruePower series). Using the fan connectors and an Antec 120mm Pro series fans has them spinning only at 1100 RPM on idle, which is hardly audible.

Of course, you could just fill up your case with SilentX fans, but those fans are pretty damn expensive.

Right now I have an Antec trupower PSU and so far its pretty damn quiet. What is really loud are my case fans. They are generic Raidmax fans that came with my case.

In my own experience, I've found the Vantec Stealth fans to be very quiet at all rpms... The only issue I can see is they have relatively low CFM ratings...

Panaflo Ls are quieter and push more air (except 120mm, where the Panaflo L isn't exactly 'quiet'). OTOH, you can walk into a store and walk out with vantec and antec fans just about any time. Unless you're doing some real overclocking, they'd probably be enough even undervolted. With cables tucked out of the way, it is sometimes amazing how even modest fans can keep things running.

I'm a huge fan of the vantec stealths. I have vantecs in my lian li and absolutely love them

I know they are good fans, but they are not as quiet as Panaflos. I used to have stealths but they weren't quiet enough for me, so now I have Panaflos connected to fan controllers.

Well you didn't say what size case you were looking at but the Antec Sonata is an awesome silent case with one outake fan out the back. matc it with a Zalman and you are set. 😀

I know this has been posted a bunch, but really there's not a better deal if your case uses 80mm fans!

B.G. Micro- Panaflo 12L $3.19ea. or 10 for $2.65ea.

For those of you that are trying to quiet your computer and haven't been doing it long. This is the fan that set the standard for quiet computing and B.G. Micro is selling them for the price of a generic fan.

{edit} Damn! I just noticed they have the 120x38mm for $3.99 or 10+ for $3.25!
86CFM....That's the M isn't it?

Yes, that is what my 120x39 M1A is rated at. Not a big fan of them, decent but not as good of air flow/dB ratio as others.

Well, I definately am a fan of the Panaflo 80mm fans. Bought a bunch of them.
I have a 92mm H that is absolutely horrible and a 120x38 L that is adequate though.

After Christmas I will be trying a couple of Globe 120's and a 92mm Evercool Aluminum in my son's case.

I know everybody here says that the larger fans give you a quieter cool, but I haven't yet found the 120mm fans that will be quieter than my case with 6- 80mm L1A's.
