What are some places in southern calif to go 4wd driving?

Im trying to justify gettig 4wd on a truck.

Im thinking it would be a cool thing to take my son (he is gonna be 4 and loves trucks) out somehwere to 4x4 and do the dad son thing, which would justify it. But im wondering where in so calif i could go..


any help is appreciated

There's a big desert... I'm sure there's somewhere out there that lacks roads.

I hiked through part of the Mojave and there was tons of good stuff there. Lots of stuff that dirt bikers used, but definitely tons of 4wd stuff as well.

Yeah but i meant maybe somehwere with other people dont want to get lost
and are they regulations or laws concerning where i can and cannot go...i mean do i just go down the freeay to desert and then just veer off into the desert?
