What are some older favorite LAN games?

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum.

I'd like to know some of your favorite older LAN games (I say older because my laptop isn't too good - 2.6ghz Dual Core and an integrated GPU).

I want to play these LAN games on Tunngle with a few people.
Preferably want them to be first person shooters or RTS/Strategy/RPG.

Anything in those genres.
Cheers 🙂

Thanks for the replies so far.
Not sure about the rules on this one, but could I play these LAN with cracked versions?

And anyone still play these LAN and maybe want to plan a game session? 🙂

Quake
Quake 2
Diablo
Diablo II
Serious Sam
Unreal
Left 4 Dead series
Warcraft II
Something from the command and conquer series

I think the only games I bothered to LAN were Warcraft 2, C&C1, Total Annhilation, Duke Nukem 3D, and UT99.

Of those, I'd go with UT99. 🙂

FWIW, if you have a decent internet connection, you could still play Battlefield: Heroes. I quit playing it a while ago, but I thought it was a lot of fun. I never payed for upgrades and was still able lead the boards most of the time. (I hear it's more "pay to win" now, but worth a shot!)

We would play a lot of Rainbow 6. It was fun working as a team to do the recon missions and what not.

Warcraft 2 using dialup was hilarious
Battlefield 1942 was good (the PS3 has a variation titled "Battlefield 1943")
Call of Duty is a favorite (a few servers remain online

I hear a lot of Warcraft 2, but not a lot of Warcraft 3. Any ideas?

I'm trying Half-Life and HL2 LAN. I'll probably also get into Age of Mythology.

The best LAN experience I've had was with Unreal Tournament 2004.

But my own LAN experience is low, since I've only played probably four or five games in LAN within the past decade. It was "limited" to DOOM II, Command & Conquer (various titles within the franchise), the original Unreal Tournament and UT2004 pretty much, with some Age of Empires II thrown in (but very little of that in LAN).

Not sure if LAN is still popular today... if only PCs could be more compact, and if only a LAN setup in a living room wouldn't increase the temperatures and wouldn't add ten kilometers worth of wiring maybe it'd be more efficient and fun to bother even setting up to start with. And that's excluding the often inevitable Windows-related LAN setup issues before everything finally works... but I admit this is coming from my own past LAN gaming memories... things must have changed a bit since then (hopefully).

Tunngle. It's a software designed to take LAN to the world wide internet. It allows players to play LAN games with other players around the world without having to be in their house.

I'm currently finding players to play LAN games with me such as Minecraft, HL1, and soon to be Age of Mythology when I get it.

Warcraft 3 has some awesome custom games that are great for LAN play. Battle Tanks is my personal favorite. DOTA was probably the most popular custom game. The best custom games are for The Frozen Throne expansion pack.
