what are some of the good headset for games?

Heard a lot of good words about Plantronics, forgot the specific models though (I just use a decent Technics headphones and a mic).

I really like my microsoft gamevoice. I'm not sure if they're still around, but the price had dropped down to $20 CDN last time I saw them at FutureShop. My friend has Plantronics ones that he swears by though, and the price on them isn't bad either.

Anyone know of a company that makes a mic that clips around your ear? Ive got expensive speakers, so I dont need headphones, and I dont need something blocking my ears either. Those clip on mics suck, and those boom mics suck even worse. Is it really that hard for companies to think of simple things like this?

I have the zalmans, they are just ok. To tell you the truth i wouldnt get a pair myself.

The best headphones are Sennheiser or grado, bar none. I have some HD-600s that i bought in 2000, and they are still working great. You will actually get a better experience out of good headphones than you will out of a speaker setup 🙂 Unfortunately, you cant share it 😉

gaming,i dunno, for sound,i'd also say Grado or Sennheiser. Grado definatly has the best sound but they really aren't very comfortable for most. i f**cking <3 mine.

A friend of mine also swears by Plantronics (Audio .90), and I don't see what's so great about them (rampant issues with the mics just dying\breaking). I've got a set of Altec Lansings that are pretty decent.

Grado and Sens are on about the same level. They are actually high fidelity headphones but i use them for the computer just the same! I dont know any with microphones.

Sennheiser makes headphones with headsets, but they aren't comparable to their standalone headphones. Give me a second......

d@mn 56K.....

Link.

These do not have sound quality comparable to the dedicated Senn cans.

Grado and Sens are on about the same level.

I wouldn't say that. Most people compare sets like the HD497s to the Grado 80s or 125s, all of them fine for what they are, but they are all low end(for audiophile gear standards). When you step up to the 600 series Senns I think they really pull away, as long as you have an amp of course 😉 For the lower end, and arguably the mid range, the Grado's do sound pretty good, but as mentioned they are not close to the comfort level of the Sennheisers.

All the talk about Zalmans, Platronics or the like- they are complete junk in comparison to what we are talking about. Be aware though, that the 'low end' headphones looking at Grados and Sennheiser start around $100 and go up from there. A 500 series Senn will run you about $200(amp helps, but not required) with the 600 series pushing around $300(and requiring an amp for ~$100 more to drive them properly- they sound very muddy in comparison without one, although still worlds better then the regular consumer gear).

I remember I bought 5 headphones for ~$30 at christmas (gave 3 as gifts) and both mics have died. This is odd, becouse the mic doesn't move at all, and I haven't dropped them. I just set them down, mic up. And yet they still died! WTF?!

Any suggestions for a long lasting mic (doesn't necesarily have to be attached to headphones, I have some good 4 channel headphones already) for about $20 to $30? I wouldn't be opposed to a standalone mic, or a mic that attaches to a headset. I wouldn't even care if it was ghetto (glued on, taped on, etc to the headset), just as long as it has clear recording and lasts!

Not wireless, but I have a pair of Optimus headphones w/ a microphone... they're really good. The microphone itself picks up your voice amazingly well. This is key for those games when you're ghosting w/ your buddies! 😉 They have no problem hearing you talk... every word gets translated as good as your net bandwith will allow!

Not wanting hijack to this thread but just a couple of questions.

Whats a good headset? headphones + mic bundle... Im not looking at a $5 set or something really expensive. Im a price/performance hunter 🙂

Just looking at some Logitech ones that look pretty nice.

By far the best value. You need a new one every year cause the mic does die, but great sound and great noise cancelation for the mic. And cheap
