what are some great "oldies"?

gopunk

Lifer
i love to listen to oldies on the radio, but i never know the names or artists...

right now, all i have is "build me up buttercup" by "the foundations"... great song 🙂

Lobo - I'd Love You To Want Me
Mamas and the Papas - California Dreaming
PAUL MAURIAT-Love Is Blue

Try these. They are some of my fav.

Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride

Also check out the Forrest Gump soundtrack, its got some good 60s songs on it.

Well Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers has always been one of my favorites. There's a few others too:
Doby Gray-Drift Away(I can't seem to find an mp3 of the original...although I know a bajillion people have covered it...but please don't download the horrible Uncle Kracker one)
I think that's really about it for me...I'm too young to really know all that many. Actually I took a dancing class a long time ago and at one point could do the lindy hop to such songs as "Let's go to the hop" lol
Oh god it's in my head again...gaaahhh!!!
Let's go to the hop. Let's go to the hop. At the hop hop hop. NOoooooOOO get it out of my head!
Under the Boardwalk
and about 10 other "oldies" songs that I've heard too many times.
Actually, Under the Boardwalk is ok. It's not nearly as annoying as some of the other songs. Heh. Or maybe it's just that it's been 3 years and I'm getting nostalgic for high school. *sigh* high school...

*sigh* Oh how differently everything could have been... *sigh*
Don't you wish senior year was every year? Senior year at high school was awesome.

On a side note, if you're listening to the radio and you like a song try writing down a specific line and then looking it up in Google with the line in quotes plus the word Lyrics. You gotta make sure you write it exactly as the line is though because it's pretty easy to mishear things, or get some slight grammar wrong.

On the upshot you're not trying to figure out what a techno song is from one listen. THAT can drive a man insane. Try telling your friends how the song goes and pretty much everybody will stare at you like you're insane as you try to explain the bloops and the beeps. "No no, it goes, bloop bloop bloop bloop-bloop bloop BLOOP BLOOP bloop, doo dooo doo doo doo doo do dooo dooo doo" Oh how many a time I've made myself feel like quite the ass trying to ID techno. At least the techno(I'm just using techno here as a generic term for any electronic music...I'm far too lazy to go classify house/trance/whateverhybridyou'llthinkup) with words is more identifiable. But damn, it took me QUITE a while to find Sandstorm after first hearing it. I mean really, how do you figure out what the title to Sandstorm is if you've only heard it once?

It goes "dee dee dee dee dee dee deep deep deep dee dee dee dee then it goes doo doo dooo dooo doooo doo doodooo mii dooo doooo doooo mi mi mi mi me me me me dooo doood ooo" lol Needless to say it was mostly luck that I figured out what the song was called within a day.

Good songs so far.

Duane Eddy - Rebel Rouser

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortuante Son

Simon & Garfunkel - The Sounds Of Silence

Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson

Neil Diamond - Travelin' Salvation Show

Tommy James & The Shondells - Draggin The Line

Chuck Berry - No Particular Place To Go

The Association - Windy

The Ventures - Walk Don't Run

The Beachboys - Sloop John B.

The Beachboys - Good Vibrations

Mason Williams - Classical Gas <-- awesome instrumental

And so many more.....

I agree, check out the Forrest Gump soundtrack.

You're mostly talking about 50s songs... At least, thats the era that songs like "Let's go to the hop" are from. I agree, they can get annoying.

Ah, what a great thread.

Ottis Redding-"Sitting on the Dock of the Bay"
Lou Rawls-"You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine"
Paul Simon-"Mother and Child Reunion"
Don McLean-"American Pie"
Al Green-"Let's Get Together"
Edwin Starr-"Twenty-Five Miles"
R.B. Greaves-"Take a Letter, Maria"
Wilbert Harrison-"Kansas City"

I could go on for hours, I work at an Oldies station. Let me know if I can help you find anything.

Those are all interesting choices...

Not the songs that typically get played over and over, or artists that are well known.. well, with a few exceptions.. heh.

Go here and see if you recognize any of them. I used this site when compiling my music library to ramind me of those "one hit wonders" I had forgotten about.
