What are some good websites to buy a used car?

I am looking to buy a used car in NYC for around 4k which still has some life left in it.


I been looking on Craigslist, but choices are very limited. I cant drive out far or to another state, because I don't have a car or anyone who can drive me. I am pretty much limited to NYC area, and I strongly prefer to buy from owner instead of dealer.

Any ideas?

Around 900 ads posted in Brooklyn and Queens just today with asking prices under $4k. That's slim pickings?

Not sure what you're looking for but in my experience these late 90's Avalon's are tanks.

Other than craigslist you can try car specific forums, but there will be a lot more searching involved and a lot less choice, especially locally.

It only has 53,000 miles on it for $2800? That looks like a pretty good deal. Isn't a Toyota Avalon almost like a Lexus in terms of build quality?
