I guess space rock kind of falls into the psychedelic/ambient area of rock for a lack of better description. I really dig that sound with the vintage keyboards and syths, heavy bass grooves and the guitars with tons of echo and reverb effects. What groups would you say fall into that category?
So far I've come across the following groups who seem to fit into that space:
Hawkwind (they're very similar to Pink Floyd but just way more spacey, almost all of their albums from the 70's are near classic)
Here and Now (I just found out about these guys this week, their material is'nt as strong as Hawkwind and they tend to sing a bit more. But they have some really cool instrumental concepts)
Return to Forever (Not really a space rock band but more of a jazz/fusion group with space elements. The leader of the group who is also the keyboardist is probably the best piano player to play jazz)
Pink Floyd (I guess Pink Floyd would be considered space rock, I admit I'm not familiar with their entire catalog but some songs from Dark Side of the Moon and Meddle really have that spacey feel)
add on
