What are some good sound system show off songs?

Not just looking for bass, but a good bass line would be sweet. So far I have:

Paul Simon - Call Me Al
Queen - Another One Bites the Dust
Dr. Alban - Born in Africa

Rock or pop preferred.

show off? any song that the person you are showing off too likes. and loud. now if you want to test the limits of your sound system, personally its all in the ears, theres really no one song that you can test with.

Dave Matthews Band - "Satellite"
Waterboys - "Fisherman's Blues"
Yes - "Hold On"
Aimee Mann - "That's Just What You Are"
Tom Waits - "Clap Hands"

the black eyed peas - pump it, dont phunk with my heart, and my style
nelly furtado - somebody to love
michael jackson - any song of his...haha

jurassic crunch
soundtracks on telarc cd
goes down to like 5hz supposedly
you can feel the bass with some good speaks on that cd
😉

There's a thread about this on AVSforum. Actually probably quite a few threads. I try to find songs/albums that are recorded and produced well. Hard rock and metal is typically not recorded well (at least what I listen to) and it sounds like crap on a nice system.

If I wanted to show off a system, I would use Alice In Chains Unplugged. Sounds really sweet.

1812 Overture at extremely high volumes. You better hope you've got a high-end audio system for this.

What system are you showing off anyway? Something like McIntosh or Krell, etc?

peter gabriel has some of the best recorded/mixed stuff in pop/rock. the 2002 remaster of passions is my default test disc

If theres an audio system that can make that song sound clean, it would indeed be a great test.

My picks would be most anything classical, and:

Artificial Joy Club - Sick And Beautiful
Coolio - Gangsters Paradise
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
INXS - Suicide Blonde
NIN - Closer
Prince - Purple Rain
Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death
Us 3 - Cantaloop

And most everything by Queen, my first pick would be Princes of the Universe.

EDIT: MX2times had a great suggestion too.
(Though I do believe the group is called Crystal Method. 😉 )

One of the better recordings that I've heard is

The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over

especially on their DTS DVD

rap sucks because the bass has too few notes... gotta have techno or rock that has a wide range of notes to truely test the effectiveness of the speakers at mids and lows... rock with lots of high guitar work for the highs, or techno which will get everything in there probably.

Nothing beats."BLOOD" by Pete Twownsend for sub sonic lows modulating up into audibility then really percussive hits to check phasing and mid & high transients.
