what are some good popular HL Mods??

I want to download some good HL mods besides CS.
Have heard good things about natural selection ,Day of Defeat, front line force
anyone here play these mods?? give your opinion and make suggestion for other mods not listed

I play Day of Defeat and Natural selection. Both are good but it is easier to try them and find out yourself than asking other people for opinions :) Unless you are on 56K...

I play Day of Defeat like it was a religion... It is VERY fun.

Natural Selection is supposed to be good, but it did not work for me when I DL'd it so I haven't played it.

I have also heard good things about Battlegrounds (Revloutionary war)

Amazing a 5 year old game is still generating this much attention from gamers huh.


OK Some very good single player mods are
-The xeno project parts 1&2
-Assult on roswell
-Darkstar
-todesangst

I agree. CS was fun when the premise was new, but I honestly don't see the appeal anymore. Seems like a game for ego freaks who like to be the only one left standing forcing everyone else to watch them. I thought once I got Wolfenstein I wouldn't play Day of Defeat as much, but I still kept going back to DOD since it seems to put more emphasis on teamwork (even though Wolfenstein is fun also.)

Good old TFC will always be my all time favorite though. Nothing beats the fun of a team of engineers working together to ward off wave after wave of attackers. Throw in a bit of fun as Pyro to irritate people and I could play that game for hours on end.

a couple years back when I was in college, we were addicted to Fire Arms but I think that's more or less DOD now but ah, those were the days :)

Counter-strike is not fun if you play in Pub's (Public Servers), too many kids (whiners), campers, and hackers. It's more free-for-all and no teamwork. You have to play in Pugs(pick up games) or join a clan for some 5v5 strategy teamwork. In scrimmages or official league games, I love strategizing on the maps before our match and watching our plan work to perfection as we wipe the other clan out. It makes it even more fun when your on lan with 9 other friends and there's a little wager involved.

Day of defeat is a great one. Although I haven't played it in a while. Probably not as in depth of a game as CS, but loads of fun when you get on a good server.

TFC is a lot more fun if you clan. The clan matches are heartstopping when you play with friends and people that you know well. TFC in pub servers is nowhere near the excitement level of clan matches. Thats how it sucked 2 years of my life away, just pure clanning and leading a clan.

You can say that about pretty much ANY game though. Sure, you play a game with your friends (or online friends) and you're going to have more fun and probably play better together since you know each other better. That's pretty much a foregone conclusion. Heck, an online version of Candyland could be fun enough if you were playing with your friends. The thing I liked most about TFC and DOD was that they were FAR more conducive to team play by their very nature so even public servers had the potential to be fun and lead to short term friendships/teamplay with those mods, whereas with CS on public servers it's pretty much every man for himself and rather boring IMO. On pretty much any game, most people don't have the time to play enough to bother with a clan. And even most of those who do play enough and are good enough to play with anybody still don't care that much to bother being in a clan where a certain level of commitment is expected.
