What are some good PC strategy games similar to Master Of Orion?

I've seen one or two out there that claim for be "4-X" strategy games, like MOO. What are they, and are they any good?

Since MOO3 was disappointing for most, I'm looking for a MOO alternative...

Galciv is pretty good, I just started playing it. I've heard good things about Space Empires IV.

Not exactly similar but Alpha Centauri is awesome.

Star Wars: Rebellion is like MOO. The game came out some years ago.

There's also the ever so classic Master of Magic.

Look for the mods for MOO:3
In your install should be a link to the website, and from there go to the forums for MOO:3 then from there to the user mod section. Good stuff.
