What are some good headphones for my IPOD?

Hi guys! I recently just lost my super.fi 3 earbuds ( :( ) and I need to get a replacement. I kind of want to stay away from the in-ear design this time, since I find I always want to share with others... and the in-ear headphones suck for that for obvious reasons. So yah.. does anyone know a good pair of small headphones (like the original ipod ones that just sort of sit in your ear) for under/around $100? Thanks!

Koss KSC-75 are an audiophile cult favorite and for good reason.
They sound amazing and cost about $20. I doubt you will do better for under $100, though they are the clip on style rather than earbud style.

You could also try the Sony Ex71 for around $40, they have great bass and are more in ear without really being canalphones.

My Shure E2Cs have worked great. Their customer service is excellent as well.

.. because they supposedly fit really nice in your ear, and they look great - I am a fashionista after all! We'll see how it goes.. :)

Damn, they do look slick, let us know how they sound.

I bought these senns from Amazon (heard horror stories about cable rot on the Sony headphones (although they say that they have great sound)...

Ok I just got them and listened to a few songs.. here are my first impressions.

They look WAAAY better than the super.fi 3 headphones I got. The chord is softer and more bendable and the ear pieces just look HOT. A good thing about this is when you touch or rub the chord it doesn't send little sounds up to your ear (a very annoying problem with other. Another thing, they fit much better too. On the super.fi 3 headphones none of the earpieces really fit me, not even the smallest ones. But these fit perfectly right out of the box.

Ok, and on to the sound...
Compared to the super.fi's, they don't sound as "clear".. they have a lot more bass and I think that's probably why they sound so different. They "color" the sound a lot, not as crisp. They sound good don't get me wrong, just I wouldn't use them if you're interested in perfect sound reproduction.

Overall I'm impressed and a happy customer, let me know if you have any questions :)

The Vibes are somewhat popular on Head-Fi, some people really like them, and others, well, don't. I think the looks is what get most people to try them. karen's feelings seem to be consistent with what I've seen, the sound isn't for everyone.

Oh, i've been reading up on them a bit more, and apparently there's a "burn-in" period.. people say they sound completely different after 12 hours. I'll let you know!

And another cool thing is they give you 6 sets of ear fittings.. in 2 different colors , black and white. A problem I always had with my previous phones is that it was hard to tell which was left and which was right. well, with 2 different colors it's easy now ;p

I have these also. Best canal phones I ever owned. They sound better than even my Shure e2c and even the e3c! And cost a helluva lot less to0, much more comfortable and not stupid wrap around over the ear crap to deal with.

I have been looking at the Voda models. So many versions for various music. Confused me too much. They do look freaking sweet tho! :)

I've had the Sennheiser CX 300's for about 6 months now...

The Good
- fit pretty well (3 different size earpieces) *although my wife who has small ears doesn't like even the small size
- sound about 1000 times better than stock iPod headphones
- Lots of bass and crisp highs too
- nice noise reduction (my office mates have to throw stuff at me to get my attention even if I have them at low volume)

The Bad
- THE CORD
- cord is stiff and transfers a lot of friction noise straight into your head (anything from walking to turning your head to the side... you get noise but you sorta get used to it after a week or two)
- cord's stiffness also makes them annoying to wear in general as they always twist/crimp/loop and you're constantly fiddling to keep them from sticking out at odd angles and making nice loops beside your head. Annoying!!

They're perfect for my daily commute on the bus because I don't move around a lot... but someone into jogging/weightlifting or whatever will probably be annoyed by the cord noise. Fooling around with the earpiece cords every single time I put these babies on is starting to get old too. =/ I would still pick them over the stock headphones every time though... it really is night and day difference even with the cord issues.

EDIT: to be fair I've read that a lot of the inner ear options out there have cord noise transfer to some degree. Hopefully more and more models fix the issue... I'd buy a brand new pair of Sennheiser's today if I knew they resolved this.

Good luck!

I have the V-moda Vibes in the gunmetal color (which is really gold). They are definately meant to give you that fun bassy sound, but not to the point where it feels like it's going to blow your ears off with bass. They definately sound better than my E2Cs, in that the Vibes seem to (according to my untrained ear) reproduce highs and lows much better (not just louder) and are just more fun to listen to. The tradeoff is that they do not isolate nearly as well as the E2Cs.

I noticed, though, that the cords are breaking right below each of the earpieces on both sides, exposing the bare wire within. The left side was much quieter than the right for a while, but it is working fine somehow now. The same thing happened to my E2Cs, which don't work anymore, so I guess I need phones with really durable wires (I don't think I'm being particularly rough on them). Maybe I can send them in to Vmoda to get fixed.

Basically, I'm really happy with the Vibes, though I haven't heard anything more highend or the CX300. Hopefully this helps someone.
