What are some good fishing rods?

There are many good ones, it really depends on the type of action you are looking for. I prefer a rod made by Berkley called the "Lightning Rod". It has a great medium action to it, and the eyes are stainless steel instead of the standard plastic/ceramic that break after awhile...

Actually, at least up here, Wal-Mart carries some higher end rods. Yeah, most of the stuff they have is cheap to mid-grade, but they do have som nicer ones if you are at a store with a well stocked sporting goods department...

Lets put this in perspective fellas.
I'm working towards a custom AR thats going to hit near 2 grand. Dropping 1-200 for a rod aint no thing.

Bass Pro shop, dicks sporting goods, and the like carry great poles online and at a store location.

What kind of fishing you plan on doing will make a big difference in rod recommendations as well. If you are planning on wading a creek, it is hard to beat an ultra-light spinning rig IMO, but if you are headed to the lake for some catfish action, that wouldn't really be appropriate.

Bass and walleye, some catfish. Normal freshwater bank/baot fishin, no wading though.

I enjoy fishing out of a float tube. I would recommend a pair of chest high waders, and you'll need flippers for propulsion.

Works best for smaller lakes where there is easy access.

As far as tackle goes, throw a mid weight white spinner with some red/orange plastic trailer and you will kill them.

First of all, just where do you plan to go fishing?

Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska.
Any place theres water most likely.

I don't think you could have possibly named 3 other states that less conveyed my impression of "any place there is water." :)

<-- Flot is looking for a good affordable rod to go fishing off the coast of S. Florida

I'll agree with some of the previous posters and recommend Ugly Stick. I love 'em, have two myself. Great feel and sturdy as hell. I've been using one of my two for 13 years now without a problem, and in that time I've broken and/or retired several other rods. I always wind up back with my Ugly Stick.

I'll 3rd or 4th the ugly stick. Since my kids/dogs have a nasty habit of breaking my rods, I've found ugly sticks to be indestructable, and at the same time, sensitive enough to detect even the slightest of bites by bass.
