What are some good digital camcorder models from 2008-9

ok... I just bought new camcorder for $100, (DXG-5B1V) but it ended up being crappy so I'm returning it.. but I got thinking, why should I pay high price for a new model when I can get an older model that's better for less?... so I was wondering if anyone can give me some digital camcorder suggestions. I'm looking for something that takes SD media and has excellent picture and lighting quality and good sound pickup.

BTW: I know I'm stupid for getting a DXG... I should stick with Sony and Canon type stuff. I'm just trying to quickly get something for when my baby is born
