What are some good codecs?

Besides DivX, what else is there? I have two videos I can only hear sound out of and I have the latest DivX bundle. If I right-click on the one video and go to properties it just calls it a 'Video Clip' whereas I go to another clip and it says 'Movie File(mpeg)' and that video will play fine. Am I missing a codec of some special kind?

I assume it has a .avi extension.

There are lots of codecs that support avi. What you need to do is to ifind out exactly what codec was used for the compression. Then you can find the decompressor.
