What are some good brands for CompactFlash memory?

I just bought a Canon A70 digital camera and it only came with a 16mb CF card. I am looking for a good deal on a bigger card. It uses CompactFlash Type 1. What brands do you recomend (are there any to stay away from)? Also, do you know of any good deals going on right now?

Sandisk. They've been in the flash drive market for ages, long before it became mainstream with digital camera technology. They have a full range of cards in all sizes and speed grades, and have a very well working sector wear balancing technology in their controllers. Remember, flash media don't take an infinite number of write cycles, so drives who allow frequent writes to the same few physical locations will die a lot sooner than drives that balance things out.

Actually.....what about this:

SimpleTech STI-CF/128 from newegg.com for $37 shipped then there is a $10 rebate to make it $27

Should I go with that?

I recommended SanDisk a minute before you asked 😉

SimpleTech are actually the worst I've seen. Interface compatibility issues a-plenty.

It's an old review (2+ years) so I'm not sure if these results are different now, but I bought a 256MB viking card and haven't looked back. It didn't hurt that I got it for $25 AR. 🙂
