The recent pc release of dead rising 3 and a few other games (especially EA games) who suffered from low performance makes me wonder if there are any games out there that are fully optimized to take advantage of out pc hardware.

It seem like most of the time when I play a game, get low performance look online for tweaks or fix, I see people stating that the game is poorly optimized.

And to end it off. Here's hoping for Rockstar to optimize GTA 5 on PC. :|

most pc games run fine and are well optimized, its just that you hear more about the unoptimized ones because reasons.

If you dont follow the hype everything will be all rosey and its just better for your health.

I think Frostbyte games are pretty well optimized for the PC. They seem to scale well from low end to high end hardware.

It because of the coding process. It takes a long time to make a game. Optimization usually happens at the end. You can be conscious of it in your coding but really it's the end where you can look at the whole. In the grand scheme of things optimization is least priority. You have to have a finished product then start to improve it. With demands of getting software out in time what do you do? You can either rush the final product or you can push the release date out. Here you have a working product that is playable and will make you money tomorrow or you can spend a couple more weeks in optimization. If the product is in demand then you can always patch it.

Games with the "Gaming Evolved" or "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" are generally at least somewhat optimized. It means some extra effort has been put in on the PC side of things, rather than just ripping all the effects, textures, etc. from consoles and putting them on PC. Games like Dead Rising 3 tend to be the exception, rather than the rule, since it was initially released for Xbox One and the developer only later decided to bring a half-assed port to PC.

Dead Space 1 seemed to be nicely optimized. A pretty solid 85FPS at 1600x1200 with 4xAA on a 9600GT.

Witcher 2 was very well optimized along with all the Unreal engine games ran fantastic & were still cutting edge back in the day. But just because a game is made for pc doesnt mean it'll run well, Total War Rome 2 is a perfect example, it was a disaster on release & it was only for PC.

>waaah why isn't every shooter the same twitch shooter?

um... why don't you just leave now, since you clearly have no understanding of the issues at hand? dead space's problem isn't that it's slower than quake, it's that you move your mouse to aim and it takes a few hundred milliseconds for isaac to turn and aim his gun; this means it's literally impossible to make quick and accurate shots. just so you know, typical input lag values for most game engines sit around zero to tens of milliseconds, and for monitors from single digit milliseconds for fast gaming panels to high tens of milliseconds for slow panels with lots of signal processing.

As for the most optimized,i feel the Frostbite games are a great candidate. I know you need some beast 3gb cards for the best experience but i don't feel cheated having to drop the settings on my 2gb 770. The game looks fantastic to warrant the hardware.

If there's a opposite in my library of optimized, its Titanfall. 3gb of vram for some textures that look miles worst then anything i have seen in a Unreal based engine that consumed under 1gb. Bulletstorm is one UE3 based game that looks miles better and is older with a fraction of the vram usage and system requirements.

Like I said earlier, I agree with you about the Frostbyte games. I actually ran the single player campaign of BF3 on low for a bit, expecting it to look awful, but it was surprisingly nice looking.

Another great looking game that doesnt require massive hardware power was Tomb Raider, and the controls and input feel are great as well. I actually think it looks better on my HD7770 than Witcher 2 did, and for sure played a lot smoother. Witcher 2 looked good, but the controls just seemed "off" somehow. Same for skyrim, looks nice on high settings, but like crap on low, and the precision of the controls is atrocious.
