What are some fun, kid-friendly, older racing games?

What are some fun, kid-friendly racing games for PC? No need for anything gloriously new since the two games I?m replacing are Motocross Madness (the original) and Star Wars Pod Racer (no hope of this working on Vista x64, but the kids loved it).

Here?s what I seek:
* Easy for kids to play (and non-violent)
* 2-player head-to-head racing over networked computers
* Works with Windows XP and Vista x64
* Runs on old hardware?the oldest computer has an AMD XP 1800+ with a Radeon 9600, while the very oldest spare parts in the bin are +/- a Celeron 1Ghz and a Geforce FX 5200.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Quite fun to say the least. The price is great

Been playing for a couple years. My T61 has no problem playing it, but its all on low of course.

Midtown Madness! I LOVED those games when I was in middle school.

HELL YEA!!! I still have my copy of the Original Midtown Madness in Chicago. I still turn it up and play every once in a while. I actually used to play it obsessively, and around the same time actually drove up to Chicago (i live in st. louis area). Believe it or not, but I found my way around from memories in the game.
