i'd say the corolla S. yeah i know it's an appearance package but it looks decent enough and it's great on gas. i'd also say the elentra GT sedan in black is also pretty slick too.

as for mid-size, i like the altima 3.5SE. gas milage is so-so i think.

and of course, i expect everyone to say mazda3, and then the accord hybrid. the accord hybrid is not worth it IMO.

size/price don't matter

Used solely for scooting around town. Another vehicle will be used for long trips/large groups. Main driver is 5'2". Normally no more than 1 adult and two teens will occupy the vehicle. Main factor is mpg, anything less hideous than a Toyota Prius will do.

May I ask why you care about fuel efficiency but price doesn't matter?

255HP Accord hybrid gets 37MPG, but is $30,000+++

a 175HP Nissan Altima gets 31MPG, and is only $18,000

'05 Audi A4 Sedan or Avant. The six-speed manual (Avant) gets 22 city / 31 highway. And it's not ugly.

I figure any econo box is gonna cost less than $30K. With 60K+ miles a year at 2-2.5 times the mpg of the current vehicle the price will be absorbed fairly quickly.

And yes, the Prius looks horrible. I rank it right up there with the Aztek.

Jesus. You drive 60k+ miles a year?! :Q

That's 5k miles a month, over 1000 miles a week, 164 miles a day (assuming you drive this car the same distance 365 days a year)

Hybrids have attractive fuel economy but many of them haven't been around long enough to determine reliability and I've heard that they are very expensive when they're in the shop. But that may not be of much concern if you have a good warranty.

What about a diesel? 300k is nothing for them and don't many of them get 40-50 mpg? Needless to say you won't be getting a Mercedes diesel for less than $30k but you could get a VW. Turbo diesel!! :D

edit: beat me to it, lol
