What are some cool things to see in Paris?

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to go both ways. Ehhh..whatever...

I'm not going to hijack this thread so I'll just say have a nice trip! 🙂

both ways? i somehow doubt the same thing happens to french tourists. we know better. i mean seriously... is someone really gonna yell out chiracs an ass in front of a french tourist?

apparently many french just want you to be ashamed of your country because you don't agree with em. they presume to look down on you. pretty sad.

Ok, ths is the last I'm going to reply on this. If you want to discuss it further, feel free to pm me ads I don't want to take over this guy's thread anymore than it has been already.

I work at a hotel. At my hotel, we sell water in the gift shop...it happens to be the Evian brand. Since the whole Iraq deal, I have had many people come down to the desk and start going on and on how we shouldn't be selling that "french crap" and the conversation usually goes on from there about how bad the French are and they should stay out of our country. I have little doubt a good number of these people I have encountered at the hotel would love to tell some French tourist what they think of France.

Regardless, I'm sure it happens in BOTH countries, and it is usually the minority. I doubt people come up to American tourists in droves in Paris, just like that wouldn't happen here. If we do it to a French tourist in our country, we are being the jacka$$, as you put it, and vise versa.

If you want to discuss this further, let's do it in private and leave this guy's thread alone.

just learn some french before you go if you don't know enough to get around and order food

b/c unless you attempt their language then alot of the time the parisian waiters will not server you
even if you hear a waiter talking english to the table next to you ...still try and speak some french to them when they come up to you.....

maybe visit some beaches....eh dunno

My wife took french in high school and has been practicing ever since then so I think that will be a big help. I will have to look for a french to english dictionary for the palm os. ANy suggestions?

Thanks for the tips and trying to keep things on topic. I expected some anti french comments to creep up. Paris wouldn't have been my first choice but I am not complaining. I think her dad wants to send us there because he's been there a few times and wants to share his excitement about it. This will definately be a great experience as the furthest I have ever been away from home(Milw, WI) is Indiana. It's exciting and scary to think we will arrive at an airport in a foreign country with no world traveling experience. I have no idea what to expect.

On another note, I have heard it is pretty easy to get to other parts of europe by train. We were wondering if a day trip to Amsterdam or Italy would be feasable. I would love to visit Rome.

Damn I'm jealous, I spent a weekend there with a "friend" and what they say about Paris being romantic is true.

Just remember that there are @ssholes anywhere, even in Denmark which was pretty supportive of the US there were some crazies.

Try having some wine by the Effiel tower at night, very gorgeous.
Take out dinner by the Sine river (I had some sushi which was suprisingly good with wine).
The hill that the Sacr Cour is on is very nice at night too, a bit touristy but nice cafes and a good view of the city.

Trains are fairly nice, you might look into getting a Eurorail pass if you plan on using it for any lenght of time.
Day trips (or spend the night there) to some big cities from Paris would be:
Amsterdam (5hours)
Brussels (3hours)
London (4hours?)
And of course you could go to Versailles

I would leave Italy alone, it'll take time to get there, plus there is so much to see that you'll probably want todo it on a different trip.
