What are radial tires?

Alternatives? I don't think they've made bias-ply tires for standard vehicles for at least 20 years.

The strength members (steel or fiberglass cords) are wound as a radius on a mandrell.

Bias ply tires are the alternative. They are only used on trucks because you can put more layers on them.

Radials wear better, and handle better.

No real alternative. Production of bias-ply tires has all but ceased, except in cases where they are produced for restored cars that compete in for originality.

The main difference is that with bias-ply tires, the tread deforms in response to sidewall flex whereas radial tires reduce this tendency.

All tires currently for sale for street cars are radial tires. Unless you're driving a drag race car, don't even worry about it.

I've over-torqued a couple sets of tires on my sentra so I actually have been forced to buy 5-layered bias-plys for the front.

Then you need to nail the tire to the rim and then cover the hole with duct tape.
