What are pilates?

its kind of like yoga in the way that its very precise movements made for strength training but unlike yoga in the way you breath.

Well I got tired of waiting for a valid response and Google'd Pilates FAQ and found this

Just what is Pilates?
Simply stated, Pilates is a set of prescribed exercises done on the floor upon a mat (called "matwork") or utilizing equipment specially designed by Joseph Pilates (called "apparatus" or "equipment work").
It will strengthen, lengthen, stretch, balance, tone, relax and energize you! The only thing traditional Pilates will not give you is a sufficient cardiovascular workout.
And don't believe people who say you won't sweat doing Pilates. Once past the beginner's level, Pilates is extremely hard work.

So it's like Yoga stuff?

I was reading Fausto's winter training plan + lard loss plan and came across pilates.

What are they?
Pilates is basically a hybrid of yoga and resistance training that utilizes various poses and body weight as resistance instead of the typical weight rack you find in a gym. Part of the idea behind it is that by forcing you to balance while performing the resistance exercise, you recruit more muscle fibers and make progress more quickly (same reason free weight are better than Nautilus....you have to balance the weight as well as lift it). Pilates also prevents the inflexibility that can often result from strength training if you don't do a lot of supplemental stretching.

My mom is a Pilates instructor and opened up her own Pilates business in Clear Lake(Houston), TX.

She does a lot of rehabilitating people who got in car wrecks and can no longer walk, as well as working out a lot of the fatty NASA nerds.

pilates are a type of hemroids, you get them from doing too much exercise , especially stuff where you bend over
