3.8 on the x3 720 is rare. most people max out @ 3.6-3.7 on air. i know i did. 3.4 is still a decent overclock, it'll be faster than 75% of the cpus out there (the vast majority of people dont have quadcores @ 3.4ghz+). good job man.

now u have to overclock the CPU/NB controller as that also yields a significant performance boost! pretty sure u can handle 2400mhz. give it a shot.

Memory settings from 1066 to 1333 to 1600.
HT settings and voltages from 1600 - 2500, and in auto
NB settings and voltages from 2000 - 2500 and in auto
CPU volt from stock to 1.475
- I know that I could go higher, but I believe that should be for 3.7+ range
HT ref from 200 to 250
memory voltages from 1.6 to 1.9 (1600 setting)
plug and chugged other people's settings with this board
ATI OC software - had 3.6 (BIOS in auto settings - I wanted to start from a clean slate)
- but it wanted to supply 1.65v to the CPU, so I nixed that real fast - as in, boot, load CPU-Z, shut it down.

PS voltages are good.
I believe that I have adequate cooling with the Xigmatek cooler. the MAX I have ever seen has been 39 degrees under 100% load.

This has been just an unlucky setup for me.

Yes, I lost my cool during the first week I had this setup, but I'm resigned to the fact that it won't go no more.
Would love to get to 3.8-3.9, but that for me is "some day". I will keep trying with this and other rigs, so I'm not chickening out or throwing in the towel. I have to get out of this room - some obsessions are healthier than others.

Thank you all for your insights, comments, suggestions, and help. Will be talking in the future.

I'm loving my x3-- see sig, unlocked to x4 with 1.475v cpu-vid and 2.6ghz L3 cache 1.375v cpu-nb.

Using PhenomMsrTweaker + speedfan to keep the CPU at 2.2Ghz@1.04v and the fan running at 25% (silent).
