I think a business gets to make its policy and I get to decide where I spend my money. I'll make my case, but I'd never get testy with a manager over it. (Not saying you did). I do like to get the lowest price, so I don't mind doing a little legwork to get the price match.

The only person I spoke with from BB about their policy was using the online chat, I told him to call the CEO, or give me his number, he got a good laugh out of that.

They are required by law to charge the sales tax, I never consider sales tax to be part of price matching.
Wrong.

They are required by law to pay the sales tax to the relevant state, city, etc. They don't have to actually charge the sales tax to the customer though. They can pay for the sales tax any legal way that they choose to (charging the customer, less profit per sale, dwindling down their assets, etc).

Only time I've cared enough to do it was a price match at Best Buy for a modem which was on Newegg for about 50 bucks cheaper. I wanted it that day as I had just moved and didn't have internet, and, well, $50. Otherwise I would have just waited for shipping so as to not deal with mouthbreathers. Took about 20 minutes.

Maybe I didn't word it correctly, I was asking what people think about the price match policy of places. In this case, BB isn't giving me the lowest price since they still say they will add the sales tax.
I had a "manager's discretion" at BB once say he wasn't going to price match Frys because their price was too low. I said OK and not bought a thing from that BB ever since. On the flip side of things, Frys claimed years ago to price match but they would a) cop an attitude toward you, b) act like you were asking them to part water by watching them enforce their policy of having to call their competitor, and then c) when they didn't get anyone on the first try would not match. Story to that one is I don't shop Frys anymore either. :)

However, Microcenter has been very good to me in price matching even when Amazon has the occasional better price. They simply go up to the nearest PC, look with you on Amazon, see the better price and match it. I still shop at MC for this reason.

I actually met and shook hands of Best Buy founder and then CEO when the store were I worked (Orland Park- #308) opened Aug 1992, his wife beside him with a big smile.
At that time BB was 2nd to Circuit City, a few months later sales reached $1 Billion for that year the first time in the history of the company. Can't recall if Price Matching was even a policy at that time. :yum:

Speaking of CC not only did they price match but they also would give a 10% discount on top of it for the inconvenience of you having to point out their price was too high. I always shopped there until they closed their door forcing me to BB or to computercity which later transitioned to compusa and then tigerdirect..

I wish it worked the other way just to screw with people. Oh, we have the lowest price? We will just match the next lowest, because fuck you!

I dont have much to price match on, really. I just don't buy much as far as consumer electronics and such that price matching is typically associated with.

My shtity 37 or 42" flat panel TV is fine (I don't even remember if it's Plasma or LED), I haven't upgraded my computer in a long time, etc.. etc.. There isn't much space for price matching on other things in life like clothing or delicious beer.

Did a price match at BB after I already purchased the TV two weeks previous in store. The price dropped $50 on BB's web site which they matched.

I went to a BestBuy in search of PS2 EyeCams, to PM to their online clearance price.

Turns out, they were ringing up at the local store, at a LOWER price.

What did they do? Yes, they pricematched. UPWARDS.

They didn't even have the graciousness to tell me that they were ringing up cheaper already.

F'ing bastards.

How are they bastards for fixing their pricing mistake?

Not worth it. I shop around for best price at the stores I want to do business with. And if I pay a little more to get it from a quality store rather than a shithole they deserve to charge a little more for being better.

It is worth it when Best Buy and micro center price match amazon, newegg and other online sites.

You get your stuff same day and don't have to pay shipping.

Your experience will probably depend on the store you visit and the manager you get along with how close they are to meeting various sales goals.

Another option might be a price match through your credit card. I've never done that so I don't know how persnickety they are about doing that

It wasn't a "pricing mistake", the items were on B&M clearance. It just so happens that the local store that I was visiting, had already marked them down beyond what BestBuy's web site was listing them as.

I should have reported them to the weights & measures dept.

Never done it. I buy from the place that has the price I want to pay. I don't feel like dicking around with sales clerks or managers.

This. My policy is that I buy from the company which generally has the lowest price, best returns, etc. I don't mess with price matching - my philosophy is that these large companies have entire departments which check out the competition's pricing, so if they want my business, they better just drop the price and not have me waste my time haggling with managers.
